Barry Chiasson

Barry Chiasson

Age 69, Cheticamp passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 29, 2020, in the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Barry was the son of the late Dr. Russell and the late Yvonne (Cormier) Chiasson.

Barry worked as a truck driver for over forty years, his career giving him the opportunity to travel all across Canada and the United States. Cars and trucks were a major passion in his life, as he found great joy in driving and taking care of his vehicles. He loved bluegrass and fiddle music. Even though his job took him away from home for periods of time, he was a loving husband and father, caring deeply for his wife and two daughters.

Barry is survived by his wife Muriel (Larade) Chiasson; daughters, Majella, Cheticamp, and Stéphanie (Ottawa); sister, Patricia (Loubie) Roach; brothers-in-law, Gerard (Marie) Larade, Joseph Larade, Fernand (Paulette) Larade, Robert Doucet, Clarence LeLièvre; sister-in-law, Sylvie AuCoin; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Marie Claire Doucet and Magella LeLièvre; brother-in-law, Rheal AuCoin.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Barry’s healthcare team, Dr. Amélie Maillet and the rest of the staff at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, as well as the palliative care team of Dr. Alexander Ritter and nurse Moira Chiasson, who all took such good care of Barry. We are eternally grateful to all of them.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery on Saturday, November 14, 2020, (for family only) with Father Pierre Antoine St. Cyr officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Hospital Charitable Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Palliative Care Foundation or The Cape Breton Cancer Patient Fund.
