It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Charlie Joe Harris (age 84) of Cheticamp who passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.
He leaves behind his wife, Lucie Adèle (Deveau); his children, Rickey, Debbie, Brian and Ida; grandchildren, Nathan, Amber, Justin, Marie, Jessica and Harley; and great grandchildren, Damien, Jayden, Josie, Aurora, Ezra and Hadriel.
Charlie Joe was a loving husband and life partner to the love of his life of 60 years, Lucie Adèle. He was a wonderful, loving and patient Dad to his children, and a wonderful Pépére to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charlie Joe lived life for his family who were his pride and joy and to whom he gave the best of himself.
Charlie Joe always worked hard at everything he did and always gave his 110%. He was not the kind of guy who would ever seek the limelight. To those who knew him they would say he was kind and generous. He’d always do his best to look out for family, friends, neighbors or co-workers in need without ever expecting anything in return.
Charlie Joe was always a fun-loving guy. He was an undefeated champion pool player for many, many years – and that he would brag about. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards with friends, listening to music and fiddle tunes, dancing and going for a drive and, watching the Montreal Canadiens play – even though they lost most of the time, they were still his favorite team.
Charlie Joe grew up in Plateau in a family of 13 children. He is survived by his brother, Louis Pat (Amélia) Harris; and his sisters, Lina Poirier, Marie Adèle Evers, and Geraldine Harris. He is also survived by brothers in-law, Pierre Joseph (Carol) Deveau, Eddy Joe (Jeannette) Deveau, André (late Lorraine) Deveau and Joseph Tommy (late Zabeth) Camus; sisters in-law, Sophie (Deveau) Taylor and Casilda (Deveau) Larade; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by their son, Tony Harris; his brothers, Henri and Thomas (Tommy); and sisters, Marguerite, Nannette, Julitte, Sophie, Elizabeth (Zabeth) and Doris.
Many will remember Charlie Joe in different ways throughout his 84 years. But we, his family, will remember him as a gentle, tender, quiet soul who loved us all unconditionally, with all of who he was, and who gave us all the best of himself. He will be missed, but he will be remembered, always.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 1:00pm until time of funeral mass at 2:00pm in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
