Edward Joseph “Eddie Joe” Aucoin

Age 88, of Chéticamp, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Chéticamp. He was a son to the late Joseph and the late Marie Emma (LeBlanc) Aucoin.

Eddie Joe was a loving husband and father.  Born and raised in Chéticamp, he left as a young man to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces. During his time in the military, he also served in the US Army (early 1960’s.) Eddie Joe’s time in the US Army saw him serve a tour of duty in Vietnam and stand as part of the honour guard for JFK’s 1963 funeral. Also in 1963, Eddie Joe and Therese were married in Chéticamp.

After several years living in the USA, they returned to Chéticamp, in 1973, with their daughter Paula (born 1971).  Several years of working odd jobs led to him starting his own flooring company.  Eddie Joe’s brother, Laurent Edmond, worked alongside him until he sold the company and retired.

During his retirement years Eddie Joe liked to stay busy with gardening, regular golfing, guitar playing; and was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and family.  Eddie Joe was always an active volunteer with the local branch (#32) of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was extremely interested in the activities and projects that both his daughter and son-in-law, Kevin, were involved with or undertaking. Most of all, Eddie Joe will be remembered for his always friendly demeanour, greeting everyone with a warm smile. He was a well loved, highly respected, modest man; who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
