It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence Patricia “Patsy” Aucoin on February 25th, 2023 at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp at the age of 74. Patsy was born on December 16th, 1948 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cheticamp to the late Frederick and the late Margaret (Tompkins) Arsenault.
She left home at an early age to work in Toronto, but a few years later found herself in Halifax pursuing her studies to become a CNA. Her heart brought her back to Margaree where she met her husband, Leonard. Patsy and Leonard settled “au lac” where they raised their 2 children, Leonora and Terry. Patsy worked at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre up until her retirement in 2006, as a medical records tech.
Patsy and Leonard were happily married for 50 years. They enjoyed traveling, playing cards and spending time at “Shantytown”, their paradise on the Margaree River. Patsy’s door was always open, and you were sure to find a hot pot of tea on the stove. She was an active member of the community and volunteered countless hours to numerous committees and fundraisers. She had many hobbies which included gardening, knitting, painting and of course, quilting. Most importantly, Patsy was very proud of her family and loved spending quality time with her three granddaughters, Anabelle, Samantha, and Hanna.
Patsy is survived by her loving husband, Leonard; two children, Leonora Aucoin-Satri (Ravi) and Terry Aucoin (Nicole); three granddaughters, Anabelle, Samantha, and Hanna; siblings, Claire LeBlanc (Simon), Rosie McCloskey (Vernon) and Earl Arsenault (Michelle). She will be remembered and missed by many other family members. Patsy is predeceased by her brother, Michael Arsenault (Kay). The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 3rd from 7 to 9pm at the Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4th at 10:30 am in Église St. Joseph, St. Joseph du Moine with Fr. Peter LeBlanc officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund, St. Joseph du Moine. E-transfers can be made to: [email protected]

I believe that we will all be together again beyond life’s gateway where Patsy will welcome us with open arms and that beautiful smile, just as she did here in life. We will miss you my friend. So sorry to hear of Patsy’s passing.
Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.
Your wonderful memory of Patsy will live with you forever.
What started out as a work relationship turned out to be a wonderful friend relationship. How we loved to laugh together and sometimes complain together. She made sure everything was in its place when I came to work with her on site at Sacred Heart. After her retirement we never stopped being friends and had the most interesting conversations over the phone. I’ll miss her for the rest of my days. Sending my sincere sympathy to the family she loved so much, Leonard, Leonora and family and Terry and family.
Leonard and Family, Earl and Family, Rosie and Family, Claire and Family. We were so sorry to learn of Patsy’s passing and would like to extend our sincere condolences. It was mentioned in one of the earlier messages that she was a very caring person. That was especially true in the case of my parents, while they were alive. They really enjoyed her visits and the phone calls to check on them and they often spoke of how kind she was. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Pat and Duane Tompkins, Deer Lake, NL; daughters Megan and family, Airdrie, AB and Stephanie and family, Deer Lake, NL.
My sincere condolences to cousin Leonard and family on the passing of your wife Patsy.
Life certainly isn’t always fair. Patsy, I’ve known you forever, as we grew up across the road from each other. ( I am Edward and Theresa LeBlanc’s daughter). As we all took our separate paths in life, I met up with Patsy and Leonard at the Belleview a couple of years ago and it was like we had never been separated for over 40 yrs. When Patsy saw me it was like we had spent the last 40 yrs together. One of the most friendliest lady in my life. My condolences to the family. RIP beautiful lady!
My heart breaks for each and everyone of the family. She indeed was a very special person and her kids are a testimony of that.
