It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Maurice on May 31,2022 at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in St. Joseph du Moine on July 14, 1959 he was the son of the late Emile Cormier and the late Marie Poirier.
A fisherman by trade, Maurice started lobster fishing with his father Emile. Later, he acquired his own boat and continued fishing lobster and crab until his retirement. This was a labour of love for Maurice.
Maurice is survived by his four sisters and four brothers, Pauline (Gilles), Memramcook, NB, Marie Jeannine (Claude), St-Louis-de-Kent, NB, Roger (the late Valerie Nicholson), Johnstown, NS, Daniel (Brenda), Mont Carmel, PE, Bernadette (Alfred), D’Escousse, NS, Régina, Edmonton, AB, Réal, St Joseph du Moine, NS and Denis (Charlene), Margaree Valley, NS.
Maurice is also survived by his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much, Geneviève, Jacinthe, Jacques, Maxime, Mélanie, Adam, Tara, Chantelle, Ghislaine, Sylvain, Marie Josée, François, Julien, Rachelle, Jonathan, Amélie, Pascale, Louis, Michael and Laura.
Our family wishes to thank everyone on the medical team of the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre for the excellent care Maurice received on numerous occasions.
We are also very grateful for the taxi services provided by L’Acabie.
The funeral service will be held at the St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine, on Saturday June 18 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Pierre Antoine St Cyr officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. The family will receive condolences the hour prior to the service at the church.
Masks are recommended.
Donations in Maurice’s memory may be made to L’Acabie by cheque to La Coopérative de transport de Chéticamp or by e-transfer to [email protected] or to a charity of your choice.

Sincere sympathies to the family; we grew up together; Maurice was two years younger but very strong for his age; we were always helping our fathers; making hay (the old fashion way), splitting firewood, milking cows, harvesting potatoes, or helping with the lobster traps (a la cote). However we always made time to play ball (summer) and hockey (winter). May he rest in peace.
