James “Jimmy” Aucoin

Age 82 of Cheticamp, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 in the QE11 hospital, Halifax. Jimmy was a son of the late Aimable and the late Hélène Mae (Larade) Aucoin.
Jimmy was a man of few words but yet always ready with his quick wit. Friends and family could always be certain that engaging with him would always result in him joking or teasing you in good nature. A master of his craft, Jimmy spent most of his life in the autobody industry, where he was known for his steady hand and keen eye for detail. Even after his retirement you could often find him at the garage having a cup of coffee and chatting with the guys.
While he took great pride in his work, his greatest joy was his family. He was the beloved husband of Catherine for over 50 years. He was a devoted father to Brenda and the world’s proudest pépére to Liam and Luke. In the boys’ early years Brenda became a single mom and Jimmy and Catherine moved to Dartmouth to help raise the boys during this time. He became one of the most important male figures in the boys’ lives. As the boys got older they returned to their home in Cheticamp.
Jimmy was the kind of man that was always there for his family, with his frequent visits, and would do anything he could to help. If anyone in his family was in the hospital you could be sure to find him at their bedside.
One of his favorite past times was to watch the Montreal Canadians although the outcome of the games wasn’t always what he wanted. He was also an avid card player who would never refuse a game of queen of spades. He taught his grandson Luke how to play crib and they would play every chance they got. Although he enjoyed many hours of card playing, he was also a devoted Nascar fan and would watch a race every chance he got.
Jimmy’s family would like to thank the staff of the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre as well as the staff on the CCU and the 6.2 unit at the QE11. We will be forever grateful for their compassion and care.
Besides his wife, daughter, and grandsons, Jimmy is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Haché, and Patricia (Bobby) Aucoin; and sister-in-law, Sylvia.
He was predeceased by his brothers, François Aucoin, and Joseph William Aucoin; sisters, Thérèse Gelina Aucoin, Lucy Angelique Larade, and Thérèse Aucoin; and brother-in-law Albert Haché.
In keeping with his wishes, a private funeral service will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 11am with Father Daniel Gustave officiating. Family and close friends are invited to attend.
