Joanne Michelle Larade

Joanne Michelle Larade

Age 47,Grand-Étang. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our daughter, Joanne at the Cobequid Community Health Centre, Lower Sackville on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Joanne was the daughter of Linda (AuCoin) and Michel Larade, Grand-Étang. Joanne was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the early age of nine and was confined to a wheelchair at twelve years old. Her parents took good care of her until she went to Sagewood Continuing Care. Joanne’s sickness never stopped her from being active at what she could do. She will be dearly missed and we will remember her forever in our hearts. Besides her parents, she is survived by her brother David (Debbie) Larade, step-niece, Camillia. She was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Yvonne and Noel AuCoin and paternal grandparents, Antoinette and Peter Larade. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers for the excellent care given to Joanne during her stay at Sagewood. We would also like to thank the Muscular Dystrophy Association for all their help throughout the years. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund or Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

One can never find the right words at a time like this. I wanted to pass along my condolences to Joanne’s family and friends. I had the pleasure of getting to know Joanne during my years as a volunteer and then counsellor at Camp Tidnish. Recently we reconnected through Facebook and I have been following her advocacy for better living arrangements for people with disabilities. She was a kind soul with an infectious smile and she made a huge impact on those who knew her. Thank you for sharing her with us. Take care.

So sorry for your loss. I was very shocked and sad to hear Joanne is gone. She had amazing strength and I got to know her when my mother was transferred to Sagewood. She helped everyone and from the first day I walked into the facility I felt her positive energy. I will never forget her.

I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Joanne’s passing today. I met Joanne at Sagewood while visiting with my dog Macy as a therapy dog team with Therapeutic Paws of Canada. She was one of the residents with whom I always tried to visit. She always loved to see Macy! When I first started she took me “under her wing” and took me around to meet the residents she thought would like a visit with Macy. She was so helpful! I will definitely miss seeing her and I know Sagewood will miss her as well. My deepest sympathies to the family.

  • Tammy & Lindsay Harnish May 17, 2019 7:08 pm

    Dear Larade family,
Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Joanne. We had the pleasure of getting to know Joanne at the Sagewood where we volunteer. She quickly became a friend and made visits to the Sagewood even more enjoyable. We played bingo with her (she had the sharpest eye if we missed a number). We accompanied her to appointments, resident outings, and sometimes shopping at Walmart or Frenchys. The conversation was ALWAYS positive; her smile and laugh made you feel happy to be with her. She was a mentor to Lindsay, and we have learned how maternal she has been to young people in her family…no surprise. We know we don’t have to tell you how passionate she was about everything she did…she was our go to person about any activities at the Sagewood, a real spokeswoman. We are better for having known such a beautiful person and we will sincerely miss her. Sending you our deepest sympathies.
    Tammy and Lindsay Harnish

Over the past several years, Joanne has been a member of our research team “From Surviving to Thriving.” She gave so much time to this work and her great contributions will make a positive difference for younger adults who live in long-term care facilities.

My deepest sympathy to you Linda, Michel, David and family. Joanne brought light, compassion and love to all of us. I am truly honoured to have been a part of her life but more so to have her as a part of mine, she loved sharing memories of her family and always had the biggest smile on her face when she did, her enthusiasm for life was contagious to say the least! You raised an incredible woman! She will forever live in the lives she touched and will be deeply missed❤️ Lynne CCA-Sagewood
