Age 82 – It is with sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Arthur Deveaux at Foyer Père Fiset, on March 12, 2023. Born in Chéticamp he was a son of the late Lubin Deveaux and the late Éléonore (Bourgeois) Deveaux.
Joseph Arthur was a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens, loved fiddle music, fishing, gardening and Toyota cars. He enjoyed visiting family and friends during Sunday drives with his loving wife of 49 years Léa who was always by his side, together till the end. His son Bruce was his pride and joy without forgetting his love for Bernadette, his son’s common-law wife and two grand-children, Craig and Loressa.
In his early years, Joseph Arthur worked at the Cheticamp Cooperative Fish plant then joined the staff at Foyer Père Fiset for 33 years of service. Joseph Arthur was a quiet, shy, spiritual man with few words. He was very appreciative, humble and caring toward others. A kind soul.. nevertheless he could be very witty and be seen grinning and chuckling when a good joke was said.
Along with his wife Léa (Aucoin) Deveaux, he is survived by his son Bruce (Bernadette Michael); grand-children, Loressa Michael and Craig Michael. He was predeceased by brother, Sémi Deveaux, sister, Julie Mae Bourgeois.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff and members of l’Acabie, Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Homecare Services, Foyer Père Fiset. Dr. Claudie Aucoin, Dr. Marcel Aucoin, Dr. Paul Sonier, Dr. Michel Chiasson and Dr. Amélie Maillet for their loving, supportive and compassionate care over the years.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 9:30am until time of funeral at 10:30am in St. Peter’s Parish Church, Chéticamp with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations in his memory can be made to the Foyer Père Fiset or the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Care Fund.
