After a long and fulfilling life, Joseph Henri passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026 at the Foyer Père Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp at the age of 96 years. Joseph Henri was a son of the late Mederic and the late Brigitte (Deveau) AuCoin.
Joseph Henri worked multiple jobs to provide for his family and volunteered much of his time for his community. He was the first cook at the Foyer Père Fiset when it opened and this led him to opening his own restaurant and becoming famous for their meat pies.
Music was an important part of his life as he proudly sang in the choir for 73 years. He enjoyed spending his free time gardening, trout fishing and playing cribbage….that’s when he wasn’t in the woods cutting his own firewood until he was almost 90 years old.
Joseph Henri is survived by his children, Marcella, Ronny (Lisette), Lise (Carl), Aurel (Lisette), and Claudie (Lise); grandchildren, Tanya, Keith, Craig, Aaron, Dylan, Ryan, Brittany, Kent, Kaylee, Brady, Shelby, Jayden; and numerous great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Joseph Henri was predeceased by his wife, Lucy Jane; son, Bobby; and daughter, Celeste; his brothers, Noël, Eddie, Georgie, and Albert; sisters, Philomene, Katy Mae, Luce Yvonne, Julia, Marie Hélène, and Marie Jeanne.
He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to send a special thank you to all the doctors and staff of the Foyer Père Fiset for the exceptional care he received during his stay.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine from 10 am until time of funeral mass at 11 am with Father Daniel Gustave officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Cemetery Fund.
Joseph Henri AuCoin
