Age 75, Chéticamp /Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 8, 2020 with her family at her bedside. Born in Chéticamp on April 29, 1945, she was the beloved daughter of the late Thaddéo and the late Marie (Chiasson) Chiasson, Petit Étang. Judy was a member of Paroisse Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp, and St. Agnes Parish, Halifax.
Judy was a woman of deep faith. She courageously faced her terminal lung cancer diagnosis with a sense of peace and contentment knowing she would one day be reunited with her husband, Scotty. Having spent most of her adult life in Halifax and Mill Village, Judy returned to Chéticamp in July to spend her final months surrounded by family and friends. It was a beautiful summer filled with love, laughter, good food, books, puzzles, and lots of music (including her favorite, Hal Bruce). So many wonderful memories were made at her little “dollhouse cottage” on the Chéticamp river.
Left to mourn Judy’s passing are her sons, Dr. Michel (Moira) Chiasson, Chéticamp; and Duncan (Romy) Butler, Lower Sackville; and her cherished grandchildren Catherine, Allan, and Molly Chiasson; Max and Ben Butler. She will also be remembered fondly by her siblings, Laurette (Georgie) Larade, Éthel MacKinnon (André Poirier), Marie-Colombe (Camille) Robichaud, Cyril Chiasson, Nettie Chiasson (Donnie Poirier), Germaine (Germain) Bourgeois, Martine (Pierre-Joseph) Camus, Stella Chiasson (Nancy Eisenhauer), Gaston (Lorraine) Chiasson; goddaughter Lucille Deveaux; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, James Scott; three brothers in infancy; sister, Micheline; brother, Charlie.
As per Judy’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 2 pm in Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp, with Rev. Pierre Antoine St-Cyr officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Due to covid-19 contact tracing requirements, guests wishing to attend are asked to please contact Judy’s brother, Gaston Chiasson, to register. A mass in celebration of Judy’s life will also be celebrated on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 10 am in St. Agnes Parish, Halifax. In accordance with covid-19 requirements, those who wish to attend the mass at St. Agnes are asked to please phone Tracy at the St. Agnes Parish Office in order to register. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society, North Inverness County (PO Box 129, Chéticamp, NS B0E 1H0 or e-transfer [email protected]).
