Marie Carmel “Cynthia” Aucoin

Age 76, of Petit Etang passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 in the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Cynthia was a daughter of the late Louis Pat and the late Catherine (Chiasson) Poirier.

Cynthia was born and raised in Cheticamp. She moved to Toronto in her late teens, married there and had one daughter. She moved back home to Cheticamp with her husband and daughter in 1980. She had numerous jobs throughout the years. She worked at Willie à Charles’ store and then she worked at the hospital in the laundry department and would also take care of any sewing needs required. She also took on small sewing jobs for the local community. People often came to her to have their pants hemmed. She spent a number of years working in the kitchen at l’Artisanale. She even spent time in the kitchen of the Doryman and the Gabriel. In her later years she became a member of Les Femmes Acadiennes, and… we can’t forget her love of Tim Horton’s tea!

Cynthia is survived by her daughter, Genevieve Chiasson; brothers, Joseph Abraham (Murielle) Poirer, Raymond (Jacqueline) Poirier, Adrien (Ruth Boudreau) Poirier, and Claude (Teena) Poirier; sister, Louise Poirier; sisters-in-law, Marleen Aucoin, and Lynda Davis; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Cynthia was predeceased by her first husband, Wilfred Chiasson (1980), and her second husband, Joseph Linus Aucoin (2017); brother, Paul Emile Poirier; brothers-in-law, Lubie Chiasson, Roland Aucoin, and Leonard Aucoin; sisters-in-law, Hilda Chiasson, Marguerite Aucoin, Elaine Poirier, Darlene Poirier, Rita LeFort, and Isabelle Deveau.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 6-8 pm Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 11am in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp with Father Sunny Sabastian officiating.

Bon courage.

  3. My heart is broken. From the time we were 4 years old until she moved to Toronto in Grade 11, we were inseparable. Sending our deepest condolences to Genevieve and the entire family. Love and blessings to all of you. May she rest in peace. ❤️❤️
