It is with great sorrow that we, the 6 children and all family relatives announce the passing of our “Maman,” Marie Domithilde Deveau, Point Cross, at the age of 95, on May 31, 2019, in the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. She was the wife of the late Edmond T. Deveau. Born in Plateau, Mom came from a large family of whose parents were Placide and Sophie Poirier. Mom, in her long and enjoyable 95 years of life was blessed with fairly good health until recently when she battled cancer for a few years. Her great faith and constant prayers certainly helped her carry her “cross” to the end of her earthly journey.
We the family members greatly appreciate the many good deeds that so many people have done for Mom. We are especially thankful for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Medical team and support staff who were so devoted to patient care, as well as Dr. Saliba and his entire nursing and support staff at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, including the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Treatment Centre. A special thank you to the entire administration and staff of the Holy Redeemer Convent who were so compassionate and caring for Mom and anyone who needed accommodations. In her final phase of life, Mom received remarkable care from all the doctors and support staff at the Cheticamp Community Health Centre, a special thank you.
She is survived by sons; Alphonse, Paul Joe (Rita), Claudie (Dale), daughters; Marie Sophie (Gordon), Emelia (Sheldon), and Leona (Leonard), sister; Annie Blanche AuCoin (the last remaining member of her family). She is also survived by grandchildren; Cathy, Brian, Brenda, Darlene, Michelle, and Cindy, great-grandchildren; Jessica, Amanda, Avery, Jesse, Tanner, Ella, Alyssa, and Ashleigh. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 2pm at Église St. Pierre, Cheticamp with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
