Marie “Gemma” Aucion, Age 77, of Cheticamp, passed away on January 11, 2018 in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp with her precious daughter, Angela by her side. Born in Cheticamp, Gemma was the daughter of the late François and Eugenie (Gaudet) Poirier. Gemma worked for 35 years at Sacred Heart Hospital where she made lifelong friends. She was a very kind, giving and loving person who was always ready to lend a helping hand. During her retirement she volunteered at Père Fiset Guest Home alongside her daughter Angela in the hairdressing shop. Her home was always opened to family and visitors. She was always very punctual at everything she did and wished for others to be the same. She loved to shop and in her quiet time she liked reading, watching TV and playing cards. She cherished her family and doted on all her children and grandchildren. She gave of herself unselfishly. To her daughter, Angela, she was “La meilleur maman au monde.” Gemma is survived by her daughter Angela (Alexis) Poirier; step-daughters, Nicole Aucoin, Angèle (Sean) Donnachie; her stepsons, François Aucoin and Rémi (Erika) AuCoin; grandchildren; Axel Poirier, step-grandchildren; Jesse, Chloé, Ella, Lily, Ruby; 5 brothers-in-law and 9 sisters-in-law. Predeceased by 1st husband, Eddy Aucoin and 2nd husband, Wilfred Aucoin; 6 brothers, Charlie, Patrice, Eugène, André, Michel and Alphonse; 4 sisters, Marie Luce, Thérèse, Julia, Lucie Louise; 3 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law. Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Funeral is under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd.
