87, Cheticamp. We announce her peaceful passing on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Foyer Père Fiset Nursing Home. Born in Chéticamp on June 9th, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Amédée Boudreau and Justile Poirier. Mattie was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces. She enlisted in 1954 and found her specialty as Recreation Specialist. Through her various posts, she had the opportunity to travel all over the world. She was honourably released in 1983 and after many wonderful years in Ontario where she forged lifelong friendships, she made her way back to her home in Chéticamp in 1996. A fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays, Mattie loved all sports. She was an avid badminton player, loved tennis, golfing and jogged well into her 70s. She was a member of Le Club de retraités de Chéticamp, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #32, a devout catholic and very much involved in her parish. She was a devoted friend to many and she cherished her family and friends. Mattie loved to play the guitar and was at her happiest singing old songs with her Boudreau siblings at many family gatherings. To the Foyer Père Fiset staff, thank you for your kindness and compassion during her two and half years as resident. Mattie is survived by her brothers Hector (Shirley), Winnipeg, Léo (Jane), Truro; sisters Elizabeth Bourgeois, Dora Aucoin and Laurette Poirier, all of Chéticamp, many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Joseph and Edmond, sisters, Laurette, Agnes and Marie Thérèse. Cremation has taken place. No visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Église Saint-Pierre with Père Peter Leblanc officiating. Burial in parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada http://www.parkinson.ca or Foyer Père Fiset, P.O. Box 219, Chéticamp, Nova Scotia, B0E 1H0. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services.
