It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr, C.S.C., who was called to his eternal rest on April 1, 2025.
Père St-Cyr served the parishes of Saint-Joseph, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine and Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with unwavering faith, kindness and dedication since July 2019.
Born on May 7, 1967 in Port-à-Piment, Haiti, Père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr, responded to the Lord’s call by embracing religious life in the Congregation of Sainte-Croix. Entering the Congregation’s novitiate in September 1989, he made his first religious profession on August 26, 1990, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to God and the service of his people. Driven by a desire to deepen his knowledge, he continued his studies in Thomistic philosophy at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame d’Haïti in Cazeau.
He completed a post-philosophical internship at Pilate in 1992-1993, where he immersed himself fully in community life and parish service. This enriching experience was followed by his theological studies at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame d’Haïti in Turgeau from 1993 to 1997. On November 30, 1997, he sealed his definitive commitment to the Congregation of Sainte-Croix with the profession of perpetual vows. A year later, on August 9, 1998, he was ordained a priest.
Père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr leaves behind a precious legacy of faith, service and dedication. His ministry was marked by a deep love of the Church and an ardent desire to see every baptized person grow in the knowledge and love of Christ.
Père St-Cyr is survived by his sister Flore St-Cyr, his brother Jean-Luc Damas and all those who had the privilege of walking with him in faith and mission.
A prayer vigil will be held on Thursday evening, April 24, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. also in Église Saint-Pierre. For those unable to attend in person, both will be livestreamed via Facebook.
