It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Réal Cormier, on December 4, 2023 at the Sacred Heart Community Health Center in Chéticamp. Born July 21, 1962 in Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, he was the son of the late Émile and the late Marie (née Poirier) Cormier.
A fisherman most of his life, the sea was where he felt most like himself. Before he returned to the region to be a fisherman, he had discovered a passion for cooking. Graduate from l’Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec in Montréal, he spent many years working in restaurant kitchens, but also loved to cook for his family. We will no longer be able to play a game of crib or listen to loud music in a rocking chair (specifically a wooden one) without thinking of him. He will be greatly missed. We also hope that you will hold onto good memories of Réal.
Réal leaves to mourn his two children Pascale (William) and Louis, the mother of his children, Claire, as well as his siblings: Pauline (Gilles), Marie Jeannine (Claude), Roger (Mary), Daniel (Brenda), Bernadette (Alfred), Régina, and Denis (Charlene). Réal also leaves his numerous nieces and nephews, and their families: Geneviève, Jacinthe, Jacques, Maxime, Mélanie, Tara, Chantelle, Adam, Ghislaine, Sylvain, Marie Josée, François, Julien, Rachelle, Jonathan, Amélie, Michael and Laura.
He was predeceased by his parents Émile and Marie, his brother Maurice Cormier, and many friends, who we hope welcomed him with open arms.
Our family would like to thank all the members of the medical teams who treated him during his cancer diagnosis over the past year and a half.
The funeral will take place at Saint-Joseph’s Church, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, on Saturday December 16 at 10:30 a.m with Father Pierre Antoine St Cyr officiating. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service at the church (9:30 a.m.). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Réal’s name to the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Fund or to an addiction treatment center.
Condolences
Real will be missed by all of us.
My summers won’t be the same anymore.
We shared a lot of good times over the years and my family knew him well.
Our special condolences to Claire, Pascale and Louis.
Real is gone but, not forgotten.
Rest in peace Real.
Anita LeBlanc, Memramcook xoxo…
Regina, and Cormier family so sorry for Real passing but he is now pain free and at peace. I knew him as Regina’s twin brother but we were also classmates for 4 years and he was always nice to me. Time goes by so fast but one does not realize it until a sad event like this happens. My deepest sympathies to Regina especially, but also to his children and other siblings.
