Rita Marie Bushor

Age 85, Belle Cote. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, sister and friend, Marie Bushor on July 23, 2021 in the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. She was a daughter to the late Mose and the late Antoinette (LeBlanc) LeBlanc.

Known affectionately to her relatives as Rita Marie, she was a kind and gentle soul who always had a positive outlook in life, despite facing many difficulties beginning at a young age. Her mother died in childbirth when she was only 7 years old. She was lovingly welcomed into her aunt Lorette’s home where her cousins became her honorary brothers and sisters, and with whom she shared a close and lifelong bond. Her only brother lived with their paternal grandparents, and she loved being able to see him on school holidays. She was an extremely hard worker and learned to cook, clean, and do laundry (using a washboard no less) to help her aging grandparents and uncles on the farm. At 13 years old, her father remarried, and she moved to Sydney Mines where she would meet her future husband, Joe Bushor. Being a military wife, she followed him across Canada and to Germany, where they raised three daughters. Marie was industrious and very talented. She designed and sewed many of the clothes for the girls, which she continued through their lives. She taught, and won awards for her original needlepoint designs. She worked many years in the cash office of the K-mart in Dartmouth and then returned to her roots in East Margaree where she finished her career at the Credit Union. Although she spent many years away, she never forgot her Acadian heritage and was very proud to be a p’tit sceau (little bucket). She was passionate and devoted to her family. A wonderful cook, she loved making delicious meals and baked treats. Marie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, family, friends, laughter, and a good game of cards. Patient and easy going, she was also known for her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. Marie always had a strong faith and fervently prayed the rosary for family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness and will be deeply missed by all her knew her.

Marie is survived by daughter, Debby (Louis) Arsenault; sisters, Shirley (Douglas) LeBlanc and Judy Harron; grandchildren, Curtis Hadley, Ti Hadley, Teryl McKay, and Tyler McKay. Besides her husband, Joe Bushor, she was predeceased by a son, Sean Bushor (in infancy); daughters, Monique Bushor, and Darlene Arsenault; brother, Marcellin LeBlanc; and sister, Isabel Fyfe.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Michael’s Church, East Margaree with Father MacDonald Ibeh officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Donations may be made in Marie’s memory to Palliative Care Services, Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.
