Age 97, Cheticamp, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2022 in the Foyer Père Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp. He was the son of the late Isaac and the late Clothilde (Deveau) Camus.
Wilbert was a fisherman for much of his life and also worked at the Cheticamp fish plant for many years. He never travelled beyond his hometown of Cheticamp, being content within its borders. Wilbert is the last of a family of 18 siblings. Besides his wife, Agnes (Poirier) Camus, he was predeceased by brothers, Wilfred, Joseph, Auguste, Nelson, Edouard, Rudolph, Charlie, Napoléon, and Henri Paul; sisters, Alice, Marie Rose, Marie Jane, Marie Anne, Sadie, Diana, Emma, and Antoinette. They had no children of their own but loved their cats and dogs. Wilbert is also remembered by neighbourhood children for his generosity, particularly at Halloween when he handed out bags stuffed with treats. For years he took great pride in feeding “his” seagulls on a daily basis and was known for his funny tall tales about his past. Wilbert spent his last years at the Foyer Père Fiset, determined to make it to 100 years old. He would have been 98 in November.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service. Burial will be at a later date in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Cheticamp.
