It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Marcel Patrice LeBlanc, retired member of the RCMP, which occurred on December 5, 2018 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Ch\u00e9ticamp on St. Patrick\u2019s Day, March 17, 1954, he was a son of Alice May (Burns) and the late Henri LeBlanc.
\nAs a young lad, Marcel was building fishing boats with his grandfather Abraham LeBlanc. In 1972 he worked as a carpenter alongside his father. They were both employees of P.L. Aucoin\u2019s Construction Ltd., Point Cross. Over the years, Marcel developed a new interest which was his dad\u2019s renowned trade of cabinet making. He was brilliant and a very quick learner.
\nMarcel\u2019s favorite hobbies were playing cue pool at Belliveau\u2019s Pool Room, playing the position of pitcher with St. Joseph\u2019s Softball Team as well as goaltender with the Cheticamp Legion hockey team, and of course trout fishing au Lac \u00e0 Dosite. Marcel kept up with all these sports as long as his health allowed him to do so.
\nConstable M.P. LeBlanc joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1974 as a bilingual member. As a student in Regina, Marcel was a translator for his troop members. His first posting was in Ottawa followed by Sydney, Meteghan, Bridgetown, Arichat and Kingston, all in Nova Scotia. Family members always cherished these short distances for it allowed for Marcel and his young precious family to vacation in St. Joseph du Moine. His parents as well as his sister Geraldine along with her family always looked forward to spending as much time as they could all together.
\nIn 1996, after a severe spinal injury, Marcel was forced to take an early retirement, with only 21 years of service. Having to return his badge and gun was extremely heartbreaking for him.
\nMarcel is survived by his mother, Alice May (Burns) LeBlanc; sister, Geraldine Aucoin both of St. Joseph du Moine; daughters, Melissa Mae LeBlanc (Ray), Buffalo, N.Y., Cheryl Lynn LeBlanc (Jason), Toronto, ON., Melissa\u2019s mother, Susan O\u2019Connell, Cheryl\u2019s mother, Catherine Comeau ; his nephew and godson, Keith Aucoin (Anna); nephews, Craig and Kent Aucoin. He was predeceased by his brother Robert (1962), brother-in-law, Bobby Aucoin. He will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
\nCremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph\u2019s Church, St. Joseph du Moine at 10:30 a.m. with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial to follow in St. Joseph\u2019s Cemetery, St. Joseph du Moine.
