Born in Saint-Joseph-du-Moine on November 6, 1927, he was son of the late Amédée and the late Eugénie (LeLièvre) Chiasson.

Théobert will always be remembered as a gentle, kind soul and quiet by nature who lived a simple life. However, Théobert was a great storyteller and had the most contagious laugh. He was blessed with an amazing memory and loved to share stories and jokes of days gone by. Many family members who reminisce will remember the family gatherings and all the laughs with Théobert. He grew up on the family farm and acquired good work ethics early on in life. He was a hard-working man. He was a lumberman for many years, worked at the Grand-Étang lobster factory and Cape Breton Highlands National Park. He also worked in various places such as Sudbury (Ontario), Montréal (Québec) and Newfoundland. He retired in 1990 after 32 years of service with LeMoyne Co-op.

Théobert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Family meant everything to him, and he would have given the shirt off his back to help out. Some may have heard the story of when Théobert went on a fishing trip and if not for him and his brother Joseph’s heroic actions, two young boys may have drowned.

Théobert loved to stay on top of current events. He had to have his daily Chronicle Herald newspaper. He enjoyed life to the fullest with interests in fishing, gardening, and hunting. He took pride in the upkeep of his meticulous yard and loved to cut firewood for the winter. He was a huge sports fan including baseball, hockey, and boxing. He will be remembered for his boisterous shouts to the television during wins and losses of his beloved teams, the Toronto Blue Jays and Montréal Canadians. He also enjoyed playing cards and a good game of cribbage. Involved as a volunteer in his community, Théobert was an active member of St. Joseph Parish and faithfully attended services at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saint-Joseph-du-Moine. He served as a trustee, alms collector and organ pumper. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Senior Citizens Club of Saint-Joseph-du-Moine and Chéticamp. Many years ago, when coaxed, he also participated in concerts with comical skits which served as fundraisers for the parish.

In December 2015, Stella and Théobert became residents of Le Foyer Père Fiset in Chéticamp. They were the first couple to move to the RCF – Jeunesse d’Hier portion of this long-term care facility. He loved attending mass every Friday, prayer hour every Monday, bingo on Wednesday evenings and enjoyed weekly entertainment by local musicians. Sadly, on April 12th, 2020, Théobert lost the love of his life Stella. He never quite got over the loss.

He will be dearly missed by his son Linus (Linda), granddaughter Katrina and his two great-grandsons, Logan and Chase, all of Gatineau, Québec. He leaves behind his sister Eleonore Chiasson of Saint-Joseph-du-Moine, sister-in-law Catherine Aucoin of Chéticamp, brother-in-law Philias Aucoin (Laura) of Chertsey, Quebec. He will also be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, friends and other loved ones.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Stella and siblings Marie-Zabine Aucoin, Hélène Aucoin, Yvonne Mailhiot, Joseph Chiasson and Siméon Chiasson.

The family would like to thank the staff of Le Foyer Père Fiset for the devoted and loving care given to Théobert as well as their compassion during his final journey among us. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine on Thursday March 3rd, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial donations can be made to Le Foyer Père Fiset, St. Joseph Parish or a charity of your choice.

November 6, 1927 – February 25, 2022 – It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Théobert Chiasson, age 94 at Le Foyer Père Fiset in Chéticamp on February 25,2022.
