December 12, 1957 \u2013 June 18, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Armand <\/u>Joseph Poirier, age 64, at Foyer P\u00e8re Fiset<\/em> in Ch\u00e9ticamp on June 18th, 2022. Born in Ch\u00e9ticamp on December 12th, 1957, he was the son of the late Napol\u00e9on (\u00e0 Nazaire) and the late Bernadette (Doucet) Poirier of Ch\u00e9ticamp.<\/p>\n

It is very difficult to part with Armand, but it was even harder to see him struggle for years, deteriorating as a result of a very rare disease called \u201cCerebral Cavernoma\u201d. We want to thank the staff of the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre <\/em>and the Highland Manor<\/em> in Neil\u2019s Harbour for the special care during his short stay before he became part of the family of Foyer P\u00e8re Fiset<\/em> in Ch\u00e9ticamp in November 2021. We are forever grateful for the exceptional care provided by the management and staff of Le Foyer, who went above and beyond to assure his safety and well-being. The compassion and kind gestures towards him and the family during his final journey among us, go beyond the call of duty and will never be forgotten.\u00a0 Armand was treated with much dignity to his dying breath.<\/p>\n

Armand graduated in June 1977 from Canso Regional Vocational School<\/em> in Port Hawkesbury, certified as a welder. He began his career of 44 years which started at Gerry\u2019s Welding & Machine Shop<\/em>, for Gerard Boudreau. Eventually the business became Ch\u00e9ticamp Welding & Machine Shop<\/em>. Armand loved his work and was very dedicated to the job and the numerous projects that came his way. He was a very reputable \u201cwelder\u201d in the community and surrounding areas. He was known as a hard worker and was always ready to lend a helping hand.<\/p>\n

As much as Armand loved his work, he had many other passions. In 1986, he acquired a diploma from the K&D School of Taxidermy<\/em>. He was known for his patience and working relentlessly to get it done just right.<\/p>\n

Armand was an avid outdoor sportsman. He spent many hours driving his 4-wheeler traveling in the mountains and spending time at a camp built by him, his father and siblings \u2013 la campe des Nazaires. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking, snowshoeing and the list goes on. He was also a great blueberry picker and loved arriving home with full containers.<\/p>\n

Even though Armand was a bit of a loner and quiet, he was content to be surrounded by family and his close buddies. He was kind and of gentle nature. Although he had no children of his own, he considered Cory as his son. He was an amazing Dad and later in life, a proud P\u00e9p\u00e9re to Damien and Dominic. They were his pride and joy. Like his father Napol\u00e9on, kids were drawn to Armand, and he could entertain them for hours. \u00a0It brought him so much joy to bring smiles on their faces. There was nothing Armand would not do for his family and friends.<\/p>\n

Armand was a dedicated member of Recherche et Sauvetage Ch\u00e9ticamp Search & Rescue<\/em> for 35 years. He took his role quite seriously, participated in many courses and searches, oversaw the annual ticket drive for many years and took deep pride in maintaining the hall. He made many life-long friends with this association.<\/p>\n

This fine man will be dearly missed by his partner in life Rosie Grace, his stepson Cory, step-grandchildren, Damien and Dominic along with their mother Kayla Blackwood. He also leaves to mourn, his siblings; sister Geraldine (Stanley) Larade, brothers; Cyril (Charlene), Yvon (Tammie) of Ch\u00e9ticamp and Gilles (Bonnie) who resides in Camrose Alberta. Sister-in-law; Louise (Emile) Paturel of Belle-C\u00f4te and brother-in-law; Robert (Judy) Aucoin who reside in Digby, N.S. His special Oncle Lionel Poirier whom he loved like a father (Ch\u00e9ticamp) and his Uncle Patsy Poirier (Niagara Falls, Ontario). His aunts; Marie-Edna Aucoin, Leona Aucoin, Marie-H\u00e9l\u00e8ne LeBrun, Rita (Paul Joe) Deveau of Ch\u00e9ticamp and Josephine Fraser, Northeast Margaree. He will also be sadly missed by his numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many friends.<\/p>\n

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Gerard and Therese Aucoin. As well, several other extended family members.<\/p>\n

We have no doubt that this gentle soul is now an angel watching over us and was welcomed to heaven with open arms, reunited with loved ones into the eternal peace of God\u2019s kingdom where he is finally free from suffering.<\/p>\n

Armand was a man of few words and seemed quite content with his life of simplicity. He often took solace in Nature and its serenity. We would like to believe that he is simply \u2018gone fishing\u2019 while watching a beautiful sunset with perhaps a glimpse of a moose wading in the water, as Maggie lays by his side.<\/p>\n

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Everyone is welcome to join us for a \u201cCelebration of Life<\/em>\u201d on Sunday June 26, from 1:00 p.m. \u2013 4:00 p.m. at La Salle des Retrait\u00e9s-Senior Hall in Ch\u00e9ticamp. A private graveside service will take place at St. Peter\u2019s Parish Cemetery, officiated by Father Pierre Antoine St-Cyr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Foyer P\u00e8re Fiset<\/em>, Recherche et Sauvetage Ch\u00e9ticamp Search and Rescue<\/em> or your choice of charity.<\/p>\n
