She was a daughter of the late Joseph and the late Annie (Roach) Chiasson.

Thérèse was born and raised in Cheticamp, the community she loved and called home for nearly her entire life. After completing her nursing training, she spent her early career in the United States, caring for patients with the compassion and steadiness that would come to define her life’s work. Upon returning to Cheticamp, she continued her vocation as a CNA at the local hospital and later at the Foyer Père Fiset nursing home, where she remained until her retirement in 1995.

Thérèse took great pride not only in her work, but also in the people she helped shape along the way. She trained many of the long-term staff members at Foyer Père Fiset, who spoke warmly of her as a mentor—steady, patient, and skilled. In her final months, when she herself became a resident of the facility, it was these same workers who cared for her with the same tenderness she had once shown to others.

In her younger years, Thérèse found joy in the simple pleasures of community life. She loved to bowl and spent many evenings as part of local leagues during the 1980s. She was also an active member of the ladies auxiliary and remained dedicated to staying active throughout her life, often seen walking through her neighbourhood with a familiar rhythm and purpose.

Many will remember Thérèse for the warmth of her home — most often marked by the smell of something fresh from the oven. She loved to bake, filling her kitchen with bread, biscuits, cookies, and the much-loved yum yum squares that remain a favourite memory among children in the neighborhood . Her creativity extended beyond the kitchen as well; she had a skilled hand for rug hooking tapestry, carrying forward a family tradition inspired by her mother, Annie Roach, a well-known wool artist in the community.

Independent and strong-willed, Thérèse cherished living in her home, where she remained until just a few months before her passing. Her final chapter at Foyer Père Fiset was marked by the same sense of community, care, and familiarity that had always surrounded her — coming full circle in the place where she had spent so many years helping others.

Thérèse will be remembered for her kindness, her talents, her steady dedication to others, and the lasting imprint she leaves on those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the warmth she so generously shared throughout her life.

Thérèse is survived by her daughter, Paula Camus; and sister, Marguerite Chiasson.

Besides her parents, Thérèse was predeceased by her husband, Eddie Joe Aucoin; son-in-law, Kevin Camus; brother, Gerald Chiasson; and sisters, Rita Chiasson, Marie Edna Keeble, and Lorette Chiasson.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp with Father Silvichan Dominic officiating. There will be a visitation before mass from 10-10:45 am. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Age 94 – of Cheticamp passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Foyer Père Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp.
