Hector John Moore passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at the age of 83. His family surrounded him with love as he took his final journey. Lillian, his wife of 50 years, probably said \u201cHeckie\u201d, the fella upstairs is waiting, and so am I\u201d. Hector was a son of the late Bertie and the late Marion (Moore) Moore.
\nHector loved his two separate lives\u2026his construction life as a young father in the Valley, and as a fisherman when he came home in 1980. He drove the roller and was cherished by his colleagues. They coined him, \u201cthe Cape Breton Stomper\u201d because he was always giving the guys a step to make them laugh. When he retired to come home and look after his father, he took up what comes naturally, fishing. These two jobs made him who he was, a good colleague, a hard worker, and someone who wanted to make people around him, happy.
\nHector was fondly known as Poppy by most. When he was introduced this way by any of his grandchildren, he was never known by another name. He had a love of sports, pool and cards, especially crib and poker with the family. He would log who won or lost the games in his little notebooks, as if he was doing the stats for the Olympics! Friends and relatives, from far and wide would be sure to visit Poppy Heckie or Hector John to play video games.
\nHe was very proud to have 32 years of sobriety. Hector often said to anyone struggling with anything…”You just say I don’t…”, often with a hand over their shoulder.
\nHe was an adventurous soul. He travelled with his children and grandchildren, even when he thought he was too old! He loved his RV life and exploring the backroads. He would go for a drive and say he was never lost, because the car in front of him knew where they were going! However, if he was driving \u201cup the road\u201d it took a while. Everyone stopped him to chat\u2026perhaps, he is doing that now\u2026.chatting with people along his way. Lillian may need to wait a little while longer, but he will get there.
\nThe person who will miss him the most is his sister, Beatrice. Whether it was phone calls, drives, bingos, TV game shows or meals, Beatrice and Herman and their family meant so much to him.
\nHis two living children, Anna and Reggie, lived away, but talked to their dad often. He was genuinely interested in everything they did and always looked forward to them coming home. A special thanks must be given to Amy, Joey and Andrea for taking care of Poppy when they were away. He was in good hands! He loved all his grandchildren so much.
\nSo much appreciation goes to Dr Michel and Dr. Amelie, the nurses and the homecare and support staff. We also, cannot forget the friendships and support of people while he stayed in the apartment in Cheticamp.
\nHector is survived by his son, Reginald Moore (Sharon); his daughter, Anna Moore; sister, Beatrice Timmons (Herman); grandchildren, Amy Cormier (Joey), Andrea Timmons, Vanessa Boudreau (Victor), Hector LeBlanc, Shana Moore, Shawn Moore, and Lana Mulholland; great grandchildren, Kendrick Cormier, Samara MacKinnon, Siamous Timmons, Amber MacKinnon, Michaela Darlymple, Roman Cornish, Pearson Weirsma, Lilia Moore, Cassia Moore, Victoria Boudreau, Vanelope Boudreau; and many great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Clifford Poirier (who has been a good friend to dad); as well as his beloved nieces and nephews that held a special place in his heart.
\nBesides his parents, Hector was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (Poirier) Moore; his daughter, Kathleen Moore; brother, Lloyd Moore; sisters, Jean Hinkley, Theresa Keddy, and Barbara MacLean; and grandson, John Kenneth Timmons.
\nVisitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 in the Cheticamp Funeral Home from 12-2 pm followed by the funeral service at the funeral home with Rev. Pierre Chiasson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Bay Cemetery, Pleasant Bay.
