Cecil Francis Aucoin

Cecil Francis Aucoin

Age 78, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2021 at the Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Forever is a Place. A place made more radiant in a quiet morning moment when Cecil, his work here complete, was reunited with his beloved parents, Wilburt and Margaret, sister, Valerie, Stella, and nephew Joey. From this place, he lovingly gazes upon his remaining family members, Ron and Catherine, Karen and Bernie, Sharlene and Alex John, Wilburt and Stella, Patricia, and Aurel, and says “I AM FREE and you are too”.

The things that brought joy to Cecil were simple: a vibrant conversation, a meal shared, a country song, coffee with a friend, the wag of a happy dog’s tail and the entertaining antics of any, and all wise cats.

Made knowing by his own losses, Cecil understood the profound power of kindness and went about scattering compassion to all who crossed his path in his gentle, unassuming manner.

Cecil was one of those rare individuals to find true vocation in his lifetime…not once, but twice. A devoted teacher for 35 years, he blessed countless students with his unwavering commitment to showing up as guide, mentor, and advocate. As an uncle, his home became safe haven and right of passage to adulthood for his many nieces and nephews who invariably established residence with him. It is testament to his courage and character that the door to his home and heart were always open.

In remembrance of Cecil, remember who you are. Gifts of love and benevolent gestures are requested; to be bestowed generously everywhere and to everyone.

Forever is a Place in your Heart and he is waiting for you there.

My deepest sympathy to Cecil’s family at this time. Cecil and I started teaching together
in Sheet Harbour many years ago and finished our careers together in Bedford. We had many good times. Cecil was a hard worker his whole career and I have many good memories. Again, my sympathies to you all.

We’re still in shock that our neighbor and friend for over 11 years has passed on. Cecil had an incredible heart and a spirit about him that was inspirational. His memory will live with us forever and my wife and I wish all his family and friends our deepest condolences. God bless.

I had the pleasure of teaching with Cecil at Eaglewood elementary school. We became friends and have remained in touch over the years. I was so sad to learn of his passing. I will miss our interesting chats and especially his stories about Abbey/Molly and the gang! Cecil was such an intelligent and compassionate person and I know that his animal friends will miss him as well.
My heartfelt condolences to the family at this sad time.

Cecil was a very intelligent person and a wonderful teacher. I have never met another person with so much knowledge about Canadian, American and world history. He showed me one night a book that his students wrote on his last year of teaching, Each student wrote a page about how Cecil helped them. It was so heartwarming. Rest in peace my friend.

Cecil was a colleague of mine at Sunnyside Elementary, where he was a fine grade 6 teacher, and I was the music teacher. We worked together for 15 years I believe. I could always count on Cecil’s wisdom when there was a problem. He saw things clearly. He cared deeply for his students and was highly organized and efficient in his teaching. Cecil will be remembered as a gentle, kind and careful man, salt of the earth!

I was so sorry to read about Cecil’s passing. Such a lovely obiturary and that is how I remember him, “gentle and unassuming”. Cecil was one of my first vice-principals and and he was a great mentor and role model for a young teacher. I learned a lot from him that year and he made me a better teacher.

We were very sorry to hear of Cecil’s passing. Many conversations
were had on the front porch with him when we visited with our
daughter his neighbor. He was one if the best neighbors to have.
It will not be the same.
