Marie Anne Aucoin

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Anne Aucoin of Chéticamp on August 22, 2019 at the age of 74 at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Chéticamp. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Aucoin and the late Marie Emma (Poirier) Aucoin.

Marie Anne married Gilles Aucoin at the age of 22 and lived in Chéticamp where they raised two daughters, Ginette and Joanne. Over the years, she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital, Chéticamp Credit Union and Acadian Motel, but dedicated most of her life to caring for her family, children and nine grandchildren. Always thinking about others, Marie Anne served the community by reading in church, serving at lunches and by being a reliable friend and offering support in times of need. We will always remember Marie Anne for her love of quilting, fashion, gardening, spending time with friends and her witty sense of humour. Even during her illness, Marie Anne showed remarkable courage and continued to enjoy the company of friends and family.

Marie Anne is survived by her husband Gilles Aucoin, daughters Ginette (Marcel) Aucoin and Joanne (Kirk) Foran; brothers, Chester (Ethel) Aucoin, Russell Aucoin and Roger Aucoin; sister, Marie Thérèse (René) Aucoin; grandchildren, Julien, Justin, Andrée, Sophie, Nicolas, Louise, Caroline, Jacob, Isabelle.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 26 from 7-9 p.m. at Chéticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. in Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with Father Pierre Antoine St. Cyr officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to ALS Foundation or Sacred Heart Community Health Centre.
