Marie Carmelle Maillet

Marie Carmelle Maillet

The family of Marie “Carmelle” Maillet, aged 71 of Moncton NB, is saddened to announce her passing on November 15, 2019 in Moncton City Hospital exactly one month after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.  Born in Chéticamp, NS on August 24, 1948, she was the eldest child of the late Henri and Marie Eva (Bourgeois) Maillet of Petit Étang, Inverness County, NS.  She is survived by brothers René Maillet, Inverness; Daniel Maillet (Nora Henderson), Bedford; sister Diane McNeil, Halifax; nephew Jonathan McNeil, nieces Lisa McNeil and Hannah Maillet.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by twin sisters at birth.

Carmelle lived a life of service and generosity.  She worked as an RN in Chéticamp and Moncton and ended her career as a pioneer with the Extra-Mural Program providing home and community based health care services in New Brunswick.  After retirement, she did volunteer work for hospice care.  She led a happy, healthy and active lifestyle.  She will be lovingly remembered for her ability in gathering people and building lasting friendships.  She had a way of bringing out the best in people and making them believe in themselves.

Carmelle was devoted to caring for her family and friends all her life.  She truly believed that laughing is good for the soul.  Her legacy of kindness and selflessness will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to know her and be loved by her.  She made a difference.

Cremation has taken place. There is no visitation by Carmelle’s request.  Funeral Mass will be held at Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp on Wednesday, November 20 at 10:30am with Father Pierre Antoine St. Cyr officiating.  Interment in the parish cemetery.  Donations in Carmelle’s memory may be kindly directed to Hospice Southeast New Brunswick, 640 Mountain Road, Moncton, NB E1C 2P3 in support of residential hospice care.
