Mary H. (Eileen) Cusack

Mary H. (Eileen) Cusack

Age 82, Fall River, N.S. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, Nani, great-Nani, sister, aunt and friend on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the QE11 Halifax Infirmary.

Born in Point Cross, she was the eldest daughter of the late Philip and Katie Mae (Hache) Doucet. Eileen left Point Cross at the age of 17 to begin work with the Royal Bank in Sydney. She worked in several branches spending many years at the Whitney Pier Branch. She retired from the Royal Bank. Through school, moving to Sydney and the Bank, she made many life long friends.

Over the years, Eileen had many health issues but she was grateful for the love and support of her children and cherished the years she spent with her daughter and grandsons, Daniel and David, after moving from Sydney to Fall River in 1996 when Daniel was born.

She was a wealth of information for her family, always remembering names and dates for birthdays, anniversaries, and any occasion. She was an avid online Scrabble player and enjoyed the FB posts of family and her daughter’s friends.

Eileen is survived by son, Michael G. (Margaret Vatcher), Sydney; daughter, Francine (Phil MacKenzie), Fall River. She loved her five grandchildren, Daniel and David (Julia Leslie) MacKenzie, Fall River, Michael A, Cusack, Sydney, Allison (Desmond) Johnson, Eskasoni, and Natasha (Evan) MacLeod, Alberta, along with her five great-grandchildren, Michael, Dallas, Maverick, Dathen, and Darwin.

Eileen was close to her siblings, brothers, Willie Dave (Rose Mary) Doucet, Sydney, and Roland (Germaine) Doucet, Point Cross, along with sisters, Casilda AuCoin, Cheticamp, Marie Emma Arsenault, Waltham, Massachusetts, and Goretti (Alphonse) Bourgeois, Point Cross.

Eileen is also survived by sisters-in-law Beverley (Charlie) MacLean, Cambridge, Ontario, and Julie Cusack, Fall River, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who she spent wonderful times with over the years.

She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Cusack; nephew, Donnie Doucet; brothers-in-law, Ervin AuCoin, David Arsenault, Bill and Darrell Cusack; sister-in-law, Elaine.

The family would like to thank the team of health care workers in the ER and 3 IMCU of the Halifax Infirmary, especially Pam, who provided her cellphone to play Mom’s favorite song, “Why Me Lord” by Kris Kristofferson, a memory her daughter will cherish.

Special thanks to Dr. David MacNeil for his care and kindness through the years and thank you to the workers of Northwood Homecare, initially from the Musquodoboit region and then from Bedford/Sackville. Prior to the pandemic, Eileen enjoyed chatting with the drivers who delivered Meals on Wheels to her door.

She was a member of St. Andre Bessette Parish (St. Rose of Lima) in Fall River.

Donations may be made to the Mental Health Foundation of N.S. or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in Cheticamp at a later date. Burial with her parents in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Cheticamp.

Michael, Francine & Phil & Families: I was so saddened to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was such a sweet lady and we had a such a connection all those years when I worked with Dr. Virick. We shared lots of good times and were always there for each other even in the times when life challenged us. I could not believe she took the time to send me a card when my husband Mike passed in 2019. Eileen was a true treasure to all who knew her and she will be missed. She had such a beautiful smile and such a big heart and was always so kind to those who knew her. I remember her even when I worked those summers at the Fortress and we had lots of laughs together. I would have sent the card to your house Francine but did not have the address.
Remember the good memories you had with your Mom , this will help in your sadness. Love, Maggie

To Francine and Michael: I was sorry to read of your Mom’s passing.
We had such fun years ago at your Grandmothers with Elaine and the family on Cornishtown Road
Spaghetti and Meatballs and a wee drink were regular Friday night occurrences.
Your Mom had a beautiful smile and a lovely accent. I remember those days fondly.

Dear Francine/Phil, Michael, David, Daniel and family,
Am so sad to hear of Eileen’s death. I received her Christmas card and letter the day she died. I always liked Eileen as she was a true friend to our family. She had a wonderful connection with our mother. I enjoyed visiting her home in Cheticamp as a child and developing a relationship over the years. She was so supportive and affirming despite her own health issues. I pray for my cousin and you, her loved ones.
God bless you. I look forward to seeing you again when we can celebrate Eileen’s life.
My brothers Len, Lloyd and sister Corrine also send sympathies and condolences, care and concern, friendship and prayer.

To Eileen’s family. We are very sorry to hear of her passing. We would often see her at Dave and Rose Mary’s (my sister) whenever there was an occasion to celebrate. She was always pleasant with a very kind disposition, which I believe runs in the family. I know you will hold her memory in your heart. God bless

To the Family of late Eileen Cusack
It is with great difficulty that I’m writing these words of condolences. Eileen was a true friend, going back to school days in Point Cross , our banking careers in Sydney and our close relationship in Halifax. Not a week went by without having a chat with Eileen.
My deepest sympathy to all the family, especially to Francine, Daniel and David who have been such a blessing to Eileen.
Always remember that your loved one is now in her heavenly home , watching over you.
    May she rests in Peace.
