We announce the death of Pauline Mary MacDonald, age 85 of Chéticamp, who died on July 5, 2018 in Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Cheticamp. Born in Pleasant Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alex Fraser and Mamie (Chiasson) Fraser. Pauline was a person loved by many. She, in turn, was abundantly generous with her love for others. She had a gentle way of engaging people, always interested in them, and a natural way of making people love her. She raised her family, with her husband Rod, in Dartmouth. Together they created a beautiful family home, using their skills and talents to do most of the work themselves. Pauline was a talented seamstress and a cook and showed her love through food and the beautiful creations she shared with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, Samantha Mamie, who acquired her love of cooking and love of style from her “Mémère’’. Pauline passed on an appreciation of her Acadian heritage and hometown Chéticamp to her children and husband, and eventually Pauline and Rod built their beloved Thornhill summer home overlooking the town and the Cape Breton highlands. They loved their summers there and Thornhill later became Pauline’s permanent home. Near the end, Pauline was embraced by the love of her family and dearest friends, whose love for her was evident and who she held dear to her throughout her life. She is survived by son, Laurie Michael MacDonald, Edmonton, Alta.; daughters, Cynthia Susan MacDonald, Bridgetown; Jennifer Ann Hill (Philip Richard), Victoria, B.C.; grandchild Samantha Mamie Hill, Victoria, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband, John Rod MacDonald; brother, Kenneth Fraser. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 12th at 11 a.m. in Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with Father Macdonald Ibeh officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Hospital Charitable Foundation, 15102 Cabot Trail, P.O. Box 129, Chéticamp, N.S., B0E 1H0.
