Age 81, Chéticamp, passed away on August 27, 2022 at Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Chéticamp. Leo was a son of the late William Larade and the late Nellie (Haché) Larade.
After an accident at the age of 14, Leo had to have back surgery and was bedridden for 1-1/2 years, after which he had to learn to walk all over again. And he never stopped after that. He worked as an ambulance attendant and as an orderly at Sacred Heart Hospital for many years while doing carpentry work at the same time for his own business. To say he was a workaholic is a huge understatement, working with pain every day and seldom complaining. He always looked forward to visits from his grandsons and their families. Leo loved hunting with his buddies Wendell and Hector for many years and his multiple moose hunting trips to Nfld where we hear there might have been more drinking than hunting for Pape and his buddies. He also loved snowmobiling for many years and shared many laughs with Arthur a Pit and Leonard à Thomas in his later years at the legion. We know that you’re now at rest, free of pain and breathing without difficulty.
Leo is survived by daughter Paulette (Fernand) Larade; brothers, Pierre Cyril, Louis Joseph, Georgie, Patrick, Simon Pierre; grand-children, Chris (Sarah) Larade and Trevor (Amanda) Larade; great-grand-children, Paige, Blake and Nicklaus. Leo was predeceased by brothers Nectaire and Willie Joe.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10:30am at the parish cemetery with Deacon Gerald LeBlanc officiating.
Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Patient Fund or the Sacred Heart Community Health Center.
Condolences
Sorry to hear that Leo(my godfather) passed away. My condolences to you Paulette and your family. I still remember going out selling fish from house to house. Good old days.
Paulette and family. So sorry to hear about your dad. He was a special man. My sister Brenda and I went to see him last year when we were home to bury our dad. It was very special to us! We will cherish that visit.
I hope that your dad, Leonard and my dad get a chance to meet in heaven. There would be many laughs.
He always came to visit us when we were home. A very special man.
Thoughts and prayers.
