Age 84, Cheticamp, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Foyer Père Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp. Born in the former village of Cap-Rouge, now part of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Marie Helen was the daughter of the late Christophe and the late Emma (Roach) AuCoin.
Married, when she was only 18, she followed her husband to Debert, where he was stationed, then to Gagetown before moving to Toronto, where she worked at Garlock Canada. In 1996, they retired to her hometown of Cheticamp. She was a great mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a good cook and always very joyful and had a good sense of humour. Her favorite pastime was playing cards and bingo. She was always welcoming with a cup of tea and sweets.
Marie Helen is survived by her husband, Raymond Chiasson; sons, Ronnie (Barbara), Raymond Jr., both of Ontario, and Kevin, Calgary; daughters, Wilfredine (Reginald) Bennett, Bernadine (Mark) Chiasson, Gail (Francis) Aubee, all in Ontario, and Joyce Chiasson, Cheticamp; brother, Marcellin (Ethel) AuCoin; sister, Laurette (Eugene) MacGillivary, Cheticamp; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Albert Nugent, New Waterford, Joe Berininger, Oshawa, Ont., and Bill McGue, Hamilton, Ont.; sister-in-law, Claudette, Shediac, N.B.; a special person, Sophie, who was like a daughter to her. She was predeceased by brothers, Wilfred and Albert; sisters, Elizabeth, Rita, and Therese; and sister-in-law, Geneva.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Foyer Père Fiset.

Sorry to hear of Mary Helen’s passing….she was a beautiful lady….so kind and sweet..I spoke to her a couple of years ago for the last time at the Gabriel Restaurant where she and Raymond were having supper. My name is Patricia (Roach) Campbell from New Waterford and Hubert was my father! My sincerest condolences to all her family. She will be missed for sure. Hopefully I can make it to the funeral when it takes place….we are living in crazy times for sure! Love to all!
