    Chiasson, Joseph

    Age 86, of Inverary Manor, Inverness (formerly of Cheticamp), passed away on December 7, 2017 in Inverary Manor. Born in Cheticamp on July 22, 1931, he was a son of the late Luc and Olive (Roach) Chiasson. Joseph was a long-time resident of MacDonald Hall Community Residence in Inverness prior to his present residence in the Manor. He is survived by sister, Agnes Cormier, Cheticamp; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Robert, Louis, Henri, Paul, Marcellin, Victor, Hyacinthe and Albert; sister, Sister Marie, Thérèse Deveau. Cremation has taken place; there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11th at 10:30 a.m. in Cheticamp Funeral Home with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to MacDonald Hall Community Residence or Inverary manor. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd.

    Marie Mathilda “Mattie” Boudreau Sgt. (ret’d)

    87, Cheticamp. We announce her peaceful passing on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Foyer Père Fiset Nursing Home. Born in Chéticamp on June 9th, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Amédée Boudreau and Justile Poirier. Mattie was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces. She enlisted in 1954 and found her specialty as Recreation Specialist. Through her various posts, she had the opportunity to travel all over the world. She was honourably released in 1983 and after many wonderful years in Ontario where she forged lifelong friendships, she made her way back to her home in Chéticamp in 1996. A fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays, Mattie loved all sports. She was an avid badminton player, loved tennis, golfing and jogged well into her 70s. She was a member of Le Club de retraités de Chéticamp, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #32, a devout catholic and very much involved in her parish. She was a devoted friend to many and she cherished her family and friends. Mattie loved to play the guitar and was at her happiest singing old songs with her Boudreau siblings at many family gatherings. To the Foyer Père Fiset staff, thank you for your kindness and compassion during her two and half years as resident. Mattie is survived by her brothers Hector (Shirley), Winnipeg, Léo (Jane), Truro; sisters Elizabeth Bourgeois, Dora Aucoin and Laurette Poirier, all of Chéticamp, many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Joseph and Edmond, sisters, Laurette, Agnes and Marie Thérèse. Cremation has taken place. No visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Église Saint-Pierre with Père Peter Leblanc officiating. Burial in parish cemetery.     Age 69, of Petit Etang, Inverness Co., passed away in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 with his family by his side. Born August 18, 1948, he was the son of Joseph A. and Sadie Mae (Bourgeois) Aucoin. Roger was a truck driver for 41 years. He was a kind man always ready to volunteer in his community. He would help out at bingos, flea markets, at Canadian Legion functions and many others. Roger was a happy man who enjoyed the simple things in life; a gentle giant who loved coffee with his friends, a good game of cards, the laughter of children and spending time with his family and friends. Roger is survived by his wife, Sharon Aucoin, Petit Etang; sons, Robert Aucoin and Mark (Catherine) Aucoin both of Ontario; brothers, Réal (Dauphine) Aucoin, André (Anita) Aucoin both of Cheticamp; sister, Jeannine (Simi) Larade, Grand Etang; grandchildren, Katelyn Mae Aucoin, Nathan Mark Aucoin, Zackary Aucoin Byron, Zaida Rose Saffarese, Aidan John Saffarese; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held in Cheticamp Funeral Home on Friday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp with Fr.     “Eva” Marie Bourgeois of St. Joseph du Moine
    Age 68, of St. Joseph du Moine, Inverness Co., passed away in Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Cheticamp, on November 8, 2017. Born in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of the late Jean Paul and Anita (AuCoin) Romard. Eva loved spending time with her family. She loved taking walks, playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles. She had a strong faith and celebrated mass regularly. She is survived by her daughter Paulette Bourgeois, Cheticamp; son, Gerald Bourgeois (Tammy Deveau), Truro; sister, Dorothy Romard, Toronto. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Bourgeois; brother, Robert Romard and sister Simone Romard. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. until time of funeral mass at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine with Fr. Peter LeBlanc officiating.     “Dora “ Isabelle Carignan, Margaree

    Age 81 of Margaree, passed away October 23, 2017 in Inverness Consolidated Hospital. Born in Margaree, she was a daughter of the late Thomas L. and Mary Lucy (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. Dora was a lifetime member and past president of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). She was very active in the church and in the community. Dora worked for many years as a bookkeeper and was well known for her humor and saying what she thought. J Survived by her daughter, Denise Carignan, Margaree; sister, Florence Charrier, St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jean Carignan; brothers, Joseph (Josie), Johnnie, Simon and Fidel in infancy; sisters Mary Ellen, Rose, Emma, Justina, Jane, Bertha. Martha and Sophie who died in infancy. There will be a visitation in St. Michael’s Church, Margaree on October 27th from 10-11 a.m. from at which time the funeral mass will be celebrated with Fr. Macdonald Ibeh officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will be served following funeral mass in St. Michael’s Hall.     It is with profound sadness that the family of Barry Shawn Courtemanche, age 42, born on December 7th, 1974, announce his passing on Thursday, October 19th, 2017 in Cheticamp, N.S.

    Barry, devoted husband of Vanessa (Wastila), loving father of Sydney and Hunter, son of Gerry (Kettles) and Joe Courtemanche, brother of Shannon Cormier (Courtemanche). He loved and was loved by his many nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and was a loyal friend to many.

    Barry was a man of few words but showed his tremendous amount of love for his family and friends in his own way. He was happiest when with his family, on his Harley-Davidson, or having a beer.

    We would like to sincerely thank all those involved in helping bring peace to his family and friends.

    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope for Wildlife or a charity of your choice.

    There will be an informal gathering at the Fire Hall in Cheticamp, N.S. on Friday, October 27th from 7-9pm as well as a visitation at KG’s Bar and Grill in his hometown of Manitouwadge, ON on Sunday, October 29th from 1- 3pm. All are welcome—please come as you are.

    Poirier, Robert Collin “Collie”, Cheticamp

    Age 73, of Foyer Père Fiset, Cheticamp, formerly of Arsenault Hill, Margaree, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at the guest home. Born in Cheticamp on November 22, 1943, he was a son to the late Patrick and Mary Julia (Arsenault) Poirier. Collie was well known to everyone. Collie worked in his early years with Highland Pulp, 20 years or more with Isidore Doucet Construction and 13 years with Dennis Doucet and Sons Ltd. He always had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed life to the fullest until his accident in 2013 at which time he became a resident of Père Fiset Guest Home in Cheticamp. He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, Margaree, a member of the Margaree Highlanders Snowmobile Club for many years. Collie will be missed by a lot of people, he had many special friends, too many to mention. He loved to hunt, fish, ski-doo, four wheeling and playing many games of cribbage with Rose Ann and Joe Chiasson. A very big thank-you to the employees at the Foyer Père Fiset for all the love and care given to Collie. He is survived by his brothers, Kempton and Peter of Margaree; Joe, Halifax; nephews, aunts and cousins. A visitation will be held on Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in St. Michael Parish Hall, East Margaree.     Marie Irene Aucoin, 76, Cheticamp

    DOD: Sept. 29, 2017, in Sacred Heart Community Health Center, Cheticamp.

    Born in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of the late Willie Aucoin and Clara (Bourgeois) Aucoin.

    Irene passed from this life in the same manner she lived it – surrounded by love. She was happiest when she was bringing joy to others from cooking favorite meals for David and her children and grandchildren, to caring for others, cuddles with the kids, or card games and laughs. Irene loved her community, friends, and family. Her giving heart touched the lives of many and she was always ready with a lending hand. Irene will be deeply missed and as we reflect on her life well spent we are forever grateful for her goodness, generosity, nurturing spirit, and especially her unending love.

    She is survived by her husband, David Aucoin; sons, Jules (Paula) Aucoin, Summerside, P.E.I., Jean (Heather) Aucoin, Cole Harbour, Guy (Jillian) Aucoin, Stellarton; daughter, Francine (Bernie) MacDonald, Greenwood; brothers, Joseph Arthur (Thérèse) Aucoin, Gerald (Rachel) Aucoin, both of Cheticamp. Grandchildren; Chloe (Jessica), Maggie (Torsten), Samuel, Isabel, Lily, André, Arielle, Pierre, Katey. Niece & nephew; Daphne Aucoin, Brian Aucoin.
