  • Père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr

    Père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr, C.S.C., who was called to his eternal rest on April 1, 2025.

Père St-Cyr served the parishes of Saint-Joseph, Saint-Joseph-du-Moine and Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with unwavering faith, kindness and dedication since July 2019.

Born on May 7, 1967 in Port-à-Piment, Haiti, Père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr, responded to the Lord’s call by embracing religious life in the Congregation of Sainte-Croix. Entering the Congregation’s novitiate in September 1989, he made his first religious profession on August 26, 1990, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to God and the service of his people. Driven by a desire to deepen his knowledge, he continued his studies in Thomistic philosophy at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame d’Haïti in Cazeau.

He completed a post-philosophical internship at Pilate in 1992-1993, where he immersed himself fully in community life and parish service. This enriching experience was followed by his theological studies at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame d’Haïti in Turgeau from 1993 to 1997. On November 30, 1997, he sealed his definitive commitment to the Congregation of Sainte-Croix with the profession of perpetual vows. A year later, on August 9, 1998, he was ordained a priest.

Père Pierre-Antoine St-Cyr leaves behind a precious legacy of faith, service and dedication. His ministry was marked by a deep love of the Church and an ardent desire to see every baptized person grow in the knowledge and love of Christ.

Père St-Cyr is survived by his sister Flore St-Cyr, his brother Jean-Luc Damas and all those who had the privilege of walking with him in faith and mission.

  • Luce Elizabeth (Zabeth) LeBlanc

    Luce Elizabeth (Zabeth) LeBlanc

It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Luce Elizabeth (Zabeth) LeBlanc, who died suddenly but peacefully on September 4, 2023 at the age of 94.

She was adored by her children Réjeanne, Marthe, Zoël, her daughter-in-law Vivian whom she considered her own, her son-in-law Jean, and her grandchildren Michelle (Chris), Nadia (Tim) and Jean-Pierre (Jean), Mathieu (Gordon) and Patrick (Stéphanie), Zachary (Kasia), Kristien (Kelsey) and Stefan (Lindsay). Mom had a special affection for her great-grandchildren: Sophie, Alexandra, Patrick, Ariel, Basil and Hugo. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph (T.C.), her parents Francis and Catherine Deveau, her eldest daughter Alcida, her brother Bernie (Dina, decd) and her son-in-law Phil.  Mom is also survived by her sister and friend Thérèse (Jean-Roland, decd), Évelyn (Willie, decd), her brother the Rev. Fr. Daniel as well as her goddaughter Gisèle.

Widowed at the young age of 34, Mom dedicated her entire life to looking after our well-being, ensuring that we achieved the university education necessary for success in our professional lives. Despite the many challenges, she always persevered. She’ll be remembered for facing any difficulty with the phrase: “Things could always be worse!”

With Mom, busy was the word that best described her; it was either time for spring-cleaning, planting a vegetable garden or tending to her flower beds; then came the time to pick wild strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, make jam, preserves, and so on. During the winter months, she spent her free time restoring and refinishing furniture, knitting, sewing, and hooking rugs: boredom was not a part of her vocabulary.

She was always ready to drop everything and lend a hand when asked. Even into her late 80’s, she provided palliative care, staying up all night at the bedside of dying patients.

She shared with us her love for adventure and travel: across Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia, she always returned with entertaining stories and anecdotes. Whether she was backpacking, around a campfire while wilderness camping or staying in a 5-star hotel, she was always up for the challenge. We take solace that she left this world during a camping trip, one of the things she loved most.

As much as she loved to travel, she took a particular pleasure in meeting, getting to know and welcoming the many friends of her children and grandchildren, regardless of age, nationality or interest. The consummate host, she could be heard telling people she just met: “If you ever come to Chéticamp, you’re welcome here”.

From the time she retired from the hospital, Mom took pleasure in watching her grandchildren grow up. She thoroughly enjoyed sharing with them the pleasures of everyday life and her love of nature. She babysat, cooked their favorite dishes, and was a loving spectator during their activities. In her later years, she derived a particular pleasure in the professional hockey career (and cheering on) her youngest grandchild, Stéfan.

Mom was never happier than when we were all gathered together: young and old. She relished in the fact that we always considered her house our family’s natural gathering place.

We know that Mom has finally rejoined our father, her husband, for whom she always maintained an unshakeable love. Her radiant smile and her love for her family will remain forever etched in our memories.

Visitation will be at the Chéticamp Funeral Home on Friday, September 15th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pierre Church in Chéticamp.

In recognition of her lifetime honorary membership to the Nova Scotia Association of Health Auxiliaries, donations may be made in Elizabeth LeBlanc’s name to the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre Auxiliaries, P.O. Box 506, Chéticamp, N.S. B0E 1H0.

    Patrick Dave Aucoin

71, known as Davy to everyone that knew him, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, June 4th, 2022 at the Foyer Père Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp.

Born in Cheticamp to Marie Emma (Leblanc) and Joseph Aucoin, he was the youngest of 8 children.  He was predeceased by both his parents along with his two sisters, Marie-Julie and Carmella; three brothers, Yvon, Gordon, and Georgie.

He leaves behind his wife of 45 years Catherine Mae (Haché) Aucoin; his two sons, Shawn (Mélanie) Aucoin and Jeff (Erin) Aucoin; his five grandchildren, Parker, Hunter, Damien, Julie and Émilie.  He also leaves behind his two brothers, Eddie Joe (Thérèse) Aucoin and Laurent Edmond (Gelina) Aucoin along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Davy grew up in La Prairie.  He moved to Toronto at the young age of 16 and found work through several different means.  He and some of his friends would make frequent weekend trips to Cheticamp throughout the summers.  It was during one of these trips he would meet his future wife, Catherine Mae.

Davy and Catherine Mae eventually settled down in New Glasgow where they both started working at Michelin Tires.  They were married in Cheticamp on July 23, 1976.  They welcomed their first son Shawn in October, 1978.  In the early 80s, Davy and Catherine Mae moved back to their hometown of Cheticamp where they welcomed their second son Jeff in January, 1983.

He started working alongside family members in carpentry, electrical, and home heating before eventually working as a heavy equipment operator with Chiasson Brothers.  He had a passion for heavy equipment which he operated for a few different companies until a knee injury forced him into early retirement.  He also opened his small engine repair business where he could fix anything.  He always went out of his way to help anyone.

Davy loved the outdoors.  He spent many hours 4 wheeling in the mountains with his brothers and close friends.  He was a member of the Search and Rescue and Highland ATV clubs.  His other past times included NASCAR, playing card games such as Euchre and crib, and playing pool.  He and Catherine Mae would regularly take relaxing drives in the park with pit stops for ice cream.

Very rarely would there be a week in the summer when snow crab or lobster wasn’t being cooked in the barn, his second home.

His greatest love was for his family, especially his wife, sons and 5 grandchildren. Kids were drawn to him, and it brought him great joy to make them laugh. He found great joy following his two sons through the arenas during the hockey years.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre in Cheticamp and the Highland Manor in Neil’s Harbour for the care received during this time.
