Age 86. We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Anna Lucille on February 17, 2018 at the Foyer Père Fiset, Chéticamp. Born on June 29th, 1931 in Meteghan, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Willie and Marie (née Comeau) LeBlanc. After graduation, she pursued her education at Truro Normal College to become a teacher. There, she met her future husband Amédée Lionel Deveau and they married in 1956 and settled in her husband’s hometown of Chéticamp. She experienced and dreaded the local suête winds and though she missed her native “Baie Ste-Marie”, she learned to love her new extended Deveau family and adopted hometown. She chose to stay at home and provide a loving home to her children. In her leisure time, she liked to play bingo, bowl, before arthritis curtailed this activity, and play cards with a particular affinity for bridge and cribbage. She loved her pilgrimage trips to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. She was a member of Le Club des Retraités and Dames de Ste-Anne. The children wish to thank the Centre de santé communautaire Sacré-Coeur and the Foyer Père Fiset for the care given to their mother. Lucille will be missed by her children Jean-Guy, Eastern Passage, Gilles, Chéticamp, Nadine (Darin), Chéticamp and Carole (Wade), Moncton, N.B.; her grandchildren, Danielle (Tom) Barrett, Renée Aucoin, Olivier Aucoin, Alexis Aucoin; great-grandchildren, Natalie Barrett and Rachel Barrett; sister, Annette (Ernest) Comeau; brothers, Gérald (Antoinette) LeBlanc, Robert (Frances) LeBlanc, Wilfred (Josephine) LeBlanc, Nil (Geraldine) LeBlanc; sisters-in-law, Rita (Gerry) Murphy, Laurette (Daniel) Chiasson, Charlotte, Dauphine, Leila; brothers-in-law, Lévis (Blanche) , Arthur (Sylvia), Daniel (Theresa) Clarence (Agnes); as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and parents-in-law Joseph and Louise (née Aucoin) Deveau, she was predeceased by her husband Lionel; sister, Delima LeBlanc; sisters-in-law Yvonne Chiasson; brothers-in-law Wilfred, Alphonse, Hector, Yvon. Visitation on Monday (today) from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Cheticamp Funeral Home. Elizabeth Chiasson
Age 96, passed away on February 14, 2018 at Foyer Père Fiset, Chéticamp. Born in Chéticamp, she was the daughter of the late Jean “Johnny” Chiasson and Josephine (Aucoin) Chiasson. She is survived by one sister, Thérèse Romard, Chéticamp; nieces and nephews, Honora, Roger (Bernice), Jean (Aline) and Claudine (Larry). She was predeceased by one brother Joseph Wilfred Chiasson. Visitation will be Saturday, February 17 from 8:30 to 10am at Chéticamp Funeral Home followed by funeral mass at 10:30am in Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Joseph Albert Aucoin
Age 67, passed away on February 6, 2018, at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Chéticamp. Born in Chéticamp, he was the son of Marie Cecile (Boudreau) Aucoin and the late John Joe Aucoin. Albert took much pride as owner/operator of his garbage pick-up business. He loved to fish, hunt and play pool. He is survived by his mother, Marie Cecile; son, Eric (Chantal); brother, Paul Joe Aucoin (Aldora), Îles-de-la-Madeleine; sisters, Lucie May Aucoin (Edmond), New Brunswick and Lina Larade (Gerard), Chéticamp; grandchildren, Learose and Nelly; and special friend Robert (Loriann) LeBlanc. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother Tommy. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 9 at 2p.m. in Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in parish cemetery. Victoire Chiasson
We are saddened to announce the death of Victoire Chiasson, who died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Foyer Père Fiset, in Chéticamp on February 5, 2018. Victoire was born on April 30, 1927, daughter of the late Edouard LeBlanc and Cecile Camus. She was raised in the Cape Breton Highlands (le Cap-Rouge) with her 16 siblings. She is survived by her brother Harry (Gloria), sisters Elizabeth, Dorothy, Edith, daughters Jean (Greg), BettyAnn, and Sylvia (Patrice), grandchildren, Andrew, Kyna (Kara), Kendra and Robyn, great granddaughter Summer and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Chiasson, brothers, Wilfred, Neil, Angus, Georgie, Joseph, Didace, sisters, Hilda, Marie Emma, Annie Rose, Rose Anna, Evelyn, and Della. Victoire was known by all to be a kind, loving and warm person, who always welcomed people into her home with a smile on her face. She was especially fond of fiddle music and step dancing, and even in her late 80’s would attend the Saturday afternoon ceilidhs at the Doryman tavern. She cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She had a passion for cooking and baking, especially traditional acadian dishes. Her family would like to thank the staff of the Foyer Père Fiset for the excellent care that Victoire received. A memorial mass commemorating her life will take place on Friday, February 9th, 10:30 a.m. at l’Église St. Pierre with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Roger Joseph Delaney
Age 67, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2018, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp, with his wife, Marie Jeanne by his side. Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bella (Gaudet) Delaney. Roger worked in Toronto and London, Ontario most of his life before returning to his native Cape Breton Island. Roger was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 3850 and liked doing volunteer work for the association. He was a happy-go-lucky guy who had a great sense of humor and enjoyed singing, dancing although he never mastered the waltz; taking part in kitchen parties, cheering for his favorite NHL team, the Montreal Canadians and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 14 years, Marie Jeanne Doucet; mother-in-law, Marie Sophique Roach; step-daughter, Debbie (Paul) Logher, London, Ontario;stepson, Wayne (Julie) Doucet, London, Ontario; brother, Chester Delaney; sister, Ethel Hache and Sylvia Aucoin; grandchildren, Brent Doucet, Mark Doucet and Erika Logher; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Zelina LeBlanc; nephew, Billy Aucoin; brothers-in-law, Joseph William Aucoin, Paul Hache and Elias LeBlanc. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine at 9:30 a.m. till time of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Wilfred Fidel Deveaux
Age 85, of Cheticamp, passed away on January 20, 2018 in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Inverness he was the son of the late Fidel Deveaux and Adèle (Poirier) Deveaux. Wilfred was a good husband, father, brother, uncle, pépère, papi and friend. He will be greatly missed by friends and family and all who were blessed to have known him. Wilfred is survived by his wife Adrienne (Gaudet) Deveaux; son, Fidel Deveaux; daughter Calista (Ron) Roach; grandchildren Raven Pearl Roach, Shaun William Roach (Brandy Bennett); great-grandchildren Marco and Marcus and nieces and nephews. Marie Gemma AuCoin
Marie “Gemma” Aucion, Age 77, of Cheticamp, passed away on January 11, 2018 in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp with her precious daughter, Angela by her side. Born in Cheticamp, Gemma was the daughter of the late François and Eugenie (Gaudet) Poirier. Gemma worked for 35 years at Sacred Heart Hospital where she made lifelong friends. She was a very kind, giving and loving person who was always ready to lend a helping hand. During her retirement she volunteered at Père Fiset Guest Home alongside her daughter Angela in the hairdressing shop. Her home was always opened to family and visitors. She was always very punctual at everything she did and wished for others to be the same. She loved to shop and in her quiet time she liked reading, watching TV and playing cards. She cherished her family and doted on all her children and grandchildren. She gave of herself unselfishly. To her daughter, Angela, she was “La meilleur maman au monde.” Gemma is survived by her daughter Angela (Alexis) Poirier; step-daughters, Nicole Aucoin, Angèle (Sean) Donnachie; her stepsons, François Aucoin and Rémi (Erika) AuCoin; grandchildren; Axel Poirier, step-grandchildren; Jesse, Chloé, Ella, Lily, Ruby; 5 brothers-in-law and 9 sisters-in-law. Predeceased by 1st husband, Eddy Aucoin and 2nd husband, Wilfred Aucoin; 6 brothers, Charlie, Patrice, Eugène, André, Michel and Alphonse; 4 sisters, Marie Luce, Thérèse, Julia, Lucie Louise; 3 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law. Mina Marie Poirier, Age 87. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom which occurred on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Foyer Pere Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp. She was a daughter of the late Roderick (Roddie) and Marie (Poirier) Deveaux. She will be sadly missed by sister, Julianne Roach; sons, Yvon, Halifax; Jules (Pauline), Cheticamp, Stanley, Cheticamp, Alexis (Angela), Cheticamp; daughters, Honora, Cheticamp, Julia(Peter), Judique; Stella (Daniel), Cheticamp; Monique, Ottawa; Simonne (André), Cheticamp and Jacqueline (Rhéal), St. Joseph Du Moine. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Georgina Poirier, 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Rickey Chiasson
Rickey Chiasson, 42, of Stratford, P.E.I. passed away on December 25, 2017. Born in Grand Etang, Inverness Co., N.S. on September 22, 1975, he was the son of Victor and Noella (AuCoin) Chiasson. He was a proud employee of Irving Oil having worked with the company for twenty three years in Cape Breton, Dartmouth and most recently in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Rickey was a kind and compassionate man who had a great affection for his family and his many friends. He always held a special caring for the elderly, the less fortunate and for animals. He enjoyed competing in softball and bowling, particularly with his dad as a teammate. He also enjoyed biking, kayaking and keeping physically fit. Rickey’s best years were in his youth prior to disease setting in. The long hours spent outdoors with his brother and friends while keeping his mom busy drying his winter clothes was his trademark. He is survived by his mother Noella, Cheticamp, father Victor and stepmother Bernice, Grand Etang, brother, Bruce (Richard), Surrey, Uk, and maternal grandmother, Emilie Burns. Rickey will be dearly missed by his family, many friends, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers and his dear godson, Zachary. Visitation will be held in Cheticamp Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 6:30 to 9:00 P.M. Memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10:30 A. Josephine Muise
Muise (Arsenault) Josephine, East Margaree
Age 82, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom Josephine Muise at the Sea Breeze Villa at the Inverary Manor in Inverness surrounded by her loved ones on December 17, 2017. Our Mom was born on November 6, 1935, a daughter of the late Pierre Edward and Angelique Arsenault.
Mom worked hard all her life and instilled those values in her five children. She was at her happiest spending time outdoors either trout fishing on the Margaree river, picking berries, tending to her gardens and cycling. She also enjoyed playing cards, crib and bingo. She was a member of the Catholic Women League (CWL). She is survived by her five children; Dougie, Sydney, Louella (Phil), Hammonds Plains, Dolores (Real), North Bay, Ontario, George (Paulette), Georgetown, Ontario, Arlene (Hunter), Whites Lake, NS; three sisters, Sophie and Theresa, Margaree, Rita, Inverness. She is also survived by her dearly loved grand-children, Ashley, Danielle, Michelle, Alex and Shelby. She was predeceased by her husband Johnie Muise; brothers Simon and Peter; sisters, Jane, Catherine, Mary and Rita in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in St. Michael’s Church, East Margaree on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. with Father Macdonald Ibeh officiating.
