    Age 60, Toronto, passed away on May 26, 2019. Born in Chéticamp, Nova Scotia on April 29, 1959, to the late Joseph Wilfred and Marie Eveline (Poirier) Romard. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at St. Peter’s cemetery, Chéticamp, on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

    Marie Sylvia LeBlanc

    Age 78. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Sylvia LeBlanc. Sylvia passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, May 20, 2019 in the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Sylvia was born October 10, 1940, in Chéticamp. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Adele Deveaux. An avid quilter, Sylvia enjoyed making quilts for family, friends, and community organizations. Mèmére was happiest when making a fresh batch of rolls, meat pies, or a pot of fricot for a house full of family. She is survived by her children Mark LeBlanc, East Margaree; Noella (Lauchie) Mackinnon, Margaree Harbour; Roy (Gloria) LeBlanc, Florida; Colette (Tommy) Murphy, Fordview; brothers, Alfred (Amelia), Arthur (Anna), Roy (Regina); sister, Annie Rose. She was a proud Mèmére to Shana, Stacey, Ashley, Carrie, Malory, Brandon, John L., Nolan, and Malcolm, who will miss her dearly; and a beloved Grand-Mèmére to Kobe-Grace, Bryan Thomas, and Jada.

    She is predeceased by husband Joseph “Joe Wilfred” LeBlanc, siblings; Leonard, Lawrence, Edna, and Lorraine; grandchildren, John Ronald and Joseph Anthony in infancy.

    The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, East Margaree on Saturday, May 25, 2019, with Father Macdonald Ibeh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society, or a charity of one’s choice.

    Age 47,Grand-Étang. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our daughter, Joanne at the Cobequid Community Health Centre, Lower Sackville on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Joanne was the daughter of Linda (AuCoin) and Michel Larade, Grand-Étang. Joanne was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at the early age of nine and was confined to a wheelchair at twelve years old. Her parents took good care of her until she went to Sagewood Continuing Care. Joanne’s sickness never stopped her from being active at what she could do. She will be dearly missed and we will remember her forever in our hearts. Besides her parents, she is survived by her brother David (Debbie) Larade, step-niece, Camillia. She was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Yvonne and Noel AuCoin and paternal grandparents, Antoinette and Peter Larade. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers for the excellent care given to Joanne during her stay at Sagewood. We would also like to thank the Muscular Dystrophy Association for all their help throughout the years. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.     Jeannine Cormier

    Age 63, Grand Etang died peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Our sister accepted and faced her health challenges with remarkable grace and calmness. Jeannine retired from Victoria General Hospital in Halifax at the age of 50 and returned to her Cape Breton home where she led a very private and quiet life. She was a very compassionate person who had a soft heart for animals and children and loved cards and Bingo.

    Born in Cheticamp, on November 16, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Yvonne(AuCoin) and Joseph Albert Cormier.

    Jeannine is survived by four sisters; Rose Marie Chiasson, Marie Delia, Pricilla, and Sheila; three brothers; Arthur, Leon (Kathy MacArthur), and Richard; nieces and nephews, Suzanne, Nancy, Wallace, Dale (Jessica Munian), Andrew MacArthur (Helen); grand-niece and nephews Piper, Jackson, and Deacon. She was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard and Norman.

    ‘’Those we love do not go away, they walk beside us every day”. We will miss and remember our sister and hold her deep in our hearts.

    The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Jeannine’s primary Physician, Amelie Maillet; Dr. Paul Sonier, Family Physician, and all other Physicians and Health Care Providers who cared for our sister with great patience and compassion during her stay at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre.

    A funeral mass will be celebrated today, Wednesday, at St.Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine at 10:30 A.M. with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

    Marie-Henriette Chiasson

    It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Marie-Henriette Chiasson, age 100, on April 29, 2019 at Foyer Père Fiset, Cheticamp, N.S. Born at The Concession, near Margaree, she was predeceased by her parents, Mary Ann MacKinnon and Bernard Poirier and her siblings Jimmy and Margaret, Inverness, N.S. She grew up in Belle Côte and later Grand Étang, with her adopted mother Marie and Pierre à Pierre Chiasson. She married Lévis à Isidore Chiasson. He predeceased her in 1973. She is survived by her children Edna (Jimmy) Poirier, Gerard (Geraldine) Chiasson, Sylvia (Adrien) Boudreau, and Robert (Elaine) Chiasson. She had a large extended family whom she cherished. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews were the joy of her life. Henriette worked at the Lemoyne Coop for 15 years. She was a very generous person that always found time for family and friends. The tea kettle was always waiting on the stove. She loved playing cards but didn’t like to lose. She had a passion for music and dancing and always had a hooked rug on her old wooden frame. She appreciated all company but especially any dog that would come visit her. Family will be present at St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine from 9:30 am till time of funeral mass at 10:30 am on Friday, May 3, 2019, with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations can be made to the Foyer Père Fiset or a charity of your choice.

    Joseph André Larade

    80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on April 27, 2019 at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre in Cheticamp.  Born in Cheticamp, he was a son of the late Joseph Larade and Judique Muise.  André worked at the Victoria General Hospital for 27 years as paint shop supervisor. He was a devoted blood donor with 50 donations over 25 years. He enjoyed playing guitar and hunting and loved to attend bluegrass music festivals. He loved his family. André is survived by his wife Marie Gemma Aucoin; sons, Dennis (Janice) Larade, Kevin (Erica) Larade, both of Oromocto, N.B.; brothers, Leo (Lucienne) Larade, Halifax, Marcel (Sylvia) Larade, Cheticamp; sisters, Marie Sophie Roach, Marie Cecile (Sid) Malone, Marie Stella (Yvon) Michaud of Cheticamp and Marie Theresa (Walter) Creaser, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Alicha, Anthony and Thomas; great grand-child, Nora.  Predeceased by brothers, Pierre-Theodore (Germaine), Alphonse (Cecile), Placide-John (aka Patsy) and Cyril (Clara); sisters, Margaret-Anne (Willie) and Beatrice (George). There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with Deacon Gerald LeBlanc officiating. Burial in parish cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to Kidney Foundation of Canada or Paroisse Saint-Pierre.

    Age 81, St. Joseph du Moine, passed away peacefully Friday, March 29, 2019, in the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre. She was the daughter of the late Edmond and Sabine(Chiasson) LeBlanc. She is survived by son; John Gauthier, Bedford, N.S., and daughter; Ann (Gauthier) MacPhail, Mahone Bay, N.S.; brothers, Leandre (Josephine) LeBlanc, Linus (Gisele) LeBlanc, both of St. Joseph du Moine, Eugene (Laurette) LeBlanc, Penticton, B.C.; sisters, Dorothy (the late Alphonse) AuCoin, Cheticamp, and Sylvia (Don) Sullivan, Halifax; 3 grandchildren, Brenna and Aislin MacPhail, and Brooklyn Gauthier; sister-in-law, Gisele; and brothers-in-law, Jean-Guy and Tim. She was predeceased by her first husband John (Sonny) Gauthier and second husband Willie Joe Chiasson; brothers, Elias LeBlanc and Roland LeBlanc; and sister, Alberte LeBlanc. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, from 7-9 P.M. at the Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 2:00 P.M., in Église St. Joseph, St. Joseph du Moine, with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial in parish cemetery at a later date.     Lola Bernadette LeBlanc

    It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernadette LeBlanc, aged 70 of Belle Cote on March 29, 2019 at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.  Bernadette had the extraordinary gift of connecting easily with people and making everyone feel special.  Born the youngest of 8 children in Grand Étang to the late Johnny and Annie (Doucet) Burns, Bernadette moved to Toronto at the age of 16 and met her husband, Art LeBlanc of Belle Cote shortly thereafter.  Art and Bernadette had the pleasure of celebrating 50 years married this past December.  Bernadette was a warm, fun and nurturing mother and raised two daughters, Leanne (Jamie) Skinner and Kendra (Clarence) Pickett with so much love and joy.  Bernadette loved being a grandmother and she was so very proud of her five grandchildren:  Alex, Aidan and Kyle Skinner; Grace and Katie Pickett.  Art and Bernadette retired back to Belle Cote in 1998 and enjoyed a happy retirement, spending many wonderful winter months in Arizona.  Despite many health complications throughout her adult life, Bernadette always maintained a positive outlook and a grateful attitude.  Bernadette is predeceased by siblings Lucy Dora (Clovis) Aucoin, Lionel (Marie Stella) Burns, and Thomas (Antoinette) Burns.  She is survived by siblings Loretta (Joseph Edmond) Aucoin, Alex John (Mary Louise) Burns, Velma (Paul) LeBlanc and Roger (Mary) Burns.  She is beloved by her many nieces and nephews  as well as innumerable close friends throughout Cape Breton and across Canada and the United States.  Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5th from 9:30am to time of funeral mass at 11:00am St. Michael’s church in East Margaree with Father Macdonald Ibeh officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, attention Oncology Cancer Care.  A very big thank you on behalf of Bernadette’s family to the many compassionate doctors, nurses and other health care professionals involved in her exceptional care.

  • Phillippe Charles Camus

    Phillippe Charles Camus

    Age 81, of Cheticamp, passed away on March 28, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, N.S. He was the son of the late Edward and Laura (Bourgeois) Camus. Phillippe was born in Cheticamp and moved to Toronto at the age of 18, where he met the love of his life, Margie LeLièvre. They married on September 12, 1959, and had 3 wonderful children; Wayne, Laurie, and Steve. Grandpa loved and admired each of his 6 grandchildren. Phil was employed at Evans Contracting for 35 years before finishing his career with Miller Contracting. Miller Contracting loved and respected him so much that they named a street “Camus Causeway” in his honor when he retired. Phil was a great fisherman and hunted on occasion. He taught his children and grandchildren how to play cards, which was evident when he retired. He belonged to many card clubs, where he met many new people, and won the occasional game, bringing home a cake mix and a can of icing. He will be further missed by his companion, Laurette Bourgeois and her family. Dad proudly opened his heart to his new extended family. “Peasoup” you will be greatly missed. He will be dearly missed by his sons; Wayne Camus (Betty), Port Perry, and Steve Camus, Thunder Bay, daughter; Laurie Tesolin, Thunder Bay; sister, Viola (Eugene) LeBlanc, East Margaree; grandchildren, Melissa Camus, Caitlyn Camus, Bradley Camus, Courtney Camus, Victoria Tesolin, and Sara Camus; great-grandchildren; Arlee Jeschke-Camus, and Odin Camus. He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite Camus; brother, John Joe Camus; sister, Mary Jeanne Poirier. Visitation will be held in Cheticamp Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 7-9 P.M.     Elizabeth Tarzille Aucoin

    Age 101 of Chéticamp passed away on March 26, 2019 in Foyer Père Fiset , Chéticamp.  Born in Chéticamp she was the daughter of the late John and Suzanne (LeBlanc) Poirier. Tarzille married at 17 years of age to Henri Aucoin and they raised three children in Chéticamp. She worked many years at the Chéticamp Fish Co-op until retirement. She was widowed at the age of 47. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and socializing. She was particularly fond of her family and had a special love for cats. Tarzille is survived by sons, Joseph Gilles (Marie Anne), Chéticamp, Jean Rhéal (John) (Sylvie), Dartmouth; daughter, Marie Laurette Bourgeois, Chéticamp; brother Médrick (Marie Antoinette) Poirier, Chéticamp; sisters, Rita Chiasson, Chéticamp, Sr. Virginie Poirier, Sr. Marie Hélène Poirier, both of Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Marcella, Lisette, Bernell, Paulette, Ginette, Joanne, Lynn, Michelle; 19 great-grand-children and 5 great-great-grand-children. She was predeceased her husband Henri Aucoin, brothers Henri Poirier and Hubert Poirier; sisters, Sr. Marguerite Ester Poirier, Henriette Anne Chiasson, Marie Joséphine Chiasson; son-in-law Paul Albert Bourgeois and grandson Jean Elmer.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 9:30am to time of funeral mass at 10:30am at Église Saint-Pierre, Chéticamp with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating.
