  • Eileen Belliveau

    Eileen Belliveau

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eileen Belliveau announces her passing at Foyer Père Fiset on December 19, 2018 at the age of 84.Eileen, (née LeBlanc), was greatly loved by her family and extended family and was well known for her devotion to the communities of St. Joseph du Moine and Grand Étang. Family lore has it that she was originally named Marie Rose Helene LeBlanc, but a relative, while she was an infant, suggested the name Eileen, which was the same name as another relative, and that was the name she adopted for life. Eileen was a teacher for more than 30 years. She is well remembered by former students for her sing-alongs on Friday afternoons where children gathered around her piano. She had a great passion for her job and was well respected by her colleagues at the schools where she taught. Eileen was known as “Maman” to many. She was a Hall of Fame wild strawberry picker for many years and a revered bread maker, able to whip up 10 or more glistening loaves of bread in no time without any measuring devices, all while keeping an eye on Wheel of Fortune or The Price is Right. The only sign of her whirlwind baking was a fair amount of flour on the kitchen counter and on her arms. She was also a world-class maker of chicken fricot, homemade beans, rolls and pies. A fast and nimble piano player, Eileen has entertained hundreds, if not thousands, over the years, in her classroom, or at halls accompanying Chester Delaney and Claude Aucoin. She was also the organist at the St. Joseph du Moine Church for about 50 years, which included playing in the original church, playing the very powerful pipe organ in the upper level of the church. Eileen loved being surrounded by family and laughter. Many evenings were spent playing cards at Bernie à William’s house where laughter was guaranteed. In the last years of her life, Eileen was comforted having her sisters by her side. She will be greatly missed by the surviving Golden Girls, Matante Zabeth and Matante Diane.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edouard, in April 2017. She was also predeceased by her father, Moise Leblanc, and mother Luce-Agnes (Chiasson), sisters and best friends Therese (Murphy), Julia (Lester) and Marie-Hilda (Aucoin), and brothers Albert and Linus. She also greatly missed her furry friends, Libby, Leo and Pepper. Eileen is survived by her children; Alfred (Christine); Yvon (Nancy); Marc (Lori), Annette (Marcel) and Gilles (Mike); grandchildren Guy, Josée, and Anne LeLievre; Kendra Belliveau; Ian and Claire Belliveau; and Melanie, Elise Belliveau and April MacDonald; sisters Elizabeth (Chiasson) and Diane (Doucet).

The family would like to thank all the staff at Foyer Père Fiset for their kindness and care over the years and their patience when visitors to Eileen were of the four-legged kind (Buddy, Boone, Cumagh and Millie). The family would also like to thank Doctors Marcel Aucoin and Amélie Maillet for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 9:30 until time of Funeral mass at 10:30am in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph du Moine with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating.

Eileen was a very giving person. Following in her footsteps, in lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you extend an act kindness to someone who is alone or less fortunate during the holiday season.

  • Joseph “Kevin” Chiasson

    Joseph “Kevin” Chiasson

On Friday, December 7th, 2018 Joseph Kevin Chiasson passed away in the same way he lived much of his life, quietly and alone at his home in St
Joseph du Moine. Born in Chéticamp on September 4,1958, Kevin was a son of Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Chiasson and the late Bernie Chiasson. Besides his mom, left to mourn him are sisters: Bernice (Mike) Lucas, Jeannine (Gélas) Aucoin, and Gisèle (Paul) Gartland. Also left to mourn his loss are his nieces and nephews: Melissa, Renée, Allison, Justine, Ryan, Hannah and Marcus, along with their families. Numerous cousins far and wide will miss “Chigzee”. Kevin enjoyed time spent with very close friends, Maurice à Marie Luce, Rheal à Léo à Pat, David à Freddie à Paul, and Alphonse à Louis Philip. Whether fishing, camping, spending
time enjoying each other’s company or even sharing a beer or two, his time
with the boys was always time well spent. Much to his mom’s delight, his
blueberries were picked impeccably clean, a talent learned honestly from
his dad. An avid dart player, Kevin looked forward to starting up the dart
league each year, though he never shot a 180, we’re sure he’ll keep at it.
No dance he attended was ever complete until he whisked his mom around
the floor for her round dance, in her words, “He was a great dancer, so light
on his feet.” To know Kevin well, was to know a side of him not known to
many, a gentle giant with a kind heart. As much as we were shocked at
losing him, family gone before him will have been equally surprised upon
his arrival. Dad, brother, Linus, nieces, Lindsay and Ashley, many aunts and uncles, and above all, his truest, most faithful companion, his dog, Morgan were there to welcome him with open arms. The family would like to thank our cousin
Carmella Murphy for being there for Kevin, treating him with such dignity and respect. Please join us as we say goodbye to him on Thursday, December 13th from 7-9 pm at the Chéticamp Funeral Home, Chéticamp. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 14th at 10:30 a.m., in Église St. Joseph in St.Joseph du Moine, with Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd.

  • Marcel Patrice LeBlanc

    Marcel Patrice LeBlanc

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Marcel Patrice LeBlanc, retired member of the RCMP, which occurred on December 5, 2018 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. As a young lad, Marcel was building fishing boats with his grandfather Abraham LeBlanc. In 1972 he worked as a carpenter alongside his father. They were both employees of P.L. Aucoin’s Construction Ltd., Point Cross. Over the years, Marcel developed a new interest which was his dad’s renowned trade of cabinet making. He was brilliant and a very quick learner.
Marcel’s favorite hobbies were playing cue pool at Belliveau’s Pool Room, playing the position of pitcher with St. Joseph’s Softball Team as well as goaltender with the Cheticamp Legion hockey team, and of course trout fishing au Lac à Dosite. Marcel kept up with all these sports as long as his health allowed him to do so.

His first posting was in Ottawa followed by Sydney, Meteghan, Bridgetown, Arichat and Kingston, all in Nova Scotia. Family members always cherished these short distances for it allowed for Marcel and his young precious family to vacation in St. Joseph du Moine. His parents as well as his sister Geraldine along with her family always looked forward to spending as much time as they could all together.
In 1996, after a severe spinal injury, Marcel was forced to take an early retirement, with only 21 years of service. Having to return his badge and gun was extremely heartbreaking for him.
